The post about the m14 made me recall my story of the m1a. About 6 -7 years ago I had been trying to no avail to buy my grail gun. The first time I worked l like a mad man to tie as many flies as I could in the winter to buy my gun. every night I stayed up late trying to tie 3 dozen flies a night to build up enough product so I could offer a merchant an inventory of flies to sell. Also I worked trying to fill orders for guides who sold my flies for 4 times what they paid for them at creek side prices to their clients. These same guides would give my name to their clients so if they didn't get enough flies it was fair game. So anyway I stayed diligent and finally earned about $1400 or so, a friend of mine had his ffl and gave me dealer books and pricing. One night I sat in my hand me down recliner and picked out the gun with all the frills one would ever want counting out my money well in comes my wife and asks how much money do I have. Well grab a kleenex because the next part is stomach wrenching. Me being the proud of my accompliments kind of person I told her how much I had. well she sat down beside me And was quite for a few minutes a then says to me"you know we could pay off the dorango for $1200" @#!!!! Well a few minutes later I'm sitting there with about $200 in my hand a no possibillty of seeing m1a for along time. Dreams are lost hope shattered and very sad man. So I start the gun fund all over again for the next year. For about a month I helped my bil in the saw mill, and talk about a **** job. Splinters, bruises, and the worst work ever hated most every minute of it. Tired more flies built fly boxes out of curly maple and sold them any thing I could do to make a dollar. Finally got the cash together another$1400. Well this time I wasnt so conspicuous but got caught anyway by the wife looking at the book so she asks me how much money I have so I confess to the sin I'm about to commit with a shaking lip and watery eyes she says you we can pay off the truck for $700. #@$&$!!!!! So there I was half way back to empty again. Back to the grind stone at the time I had a job that was 8 on 6 off so I start within for an electrician when he got paid I'd get paid it was a great set up. My wife never knew when I got paid so it was easier to stash the money finally got to the mark and just in time my buddy was fixing to give up his ffl so did the deed left the money with him and waited . When it finally came in I was in awe! When I got home with it I showed it to my bride and her comments cut me to the bone she said "why do you need two of those when you don't shoot the one you got " well then the fight was on. Here is my m1a. If you have a story of woe and a final accomplishment to get the gun you've always wanted share it with us. Doeboy

DOEBOY,
Truly awesome!! The Corps made me work for four years just
to carry one around, and I couldn't even take it with me!
Happy Shooting!, TACC1.
(She WILL let you shoot it, won't she?)

Glad you were honest with your wife. But also glad you worked hard for something you truly wanted.
Good job.
Nice M1a

You worked hard for it. You earned it. It didn't come out of the family budget. It ain't none of her business. That's what I told my ex-wife right before the divorce.

This year will mark our 24th wedding anniversary. One thing I vowed early on was that we weren't going to fight over money - just about anything else, but never money. Well, I found out my wife don't play fair. I'll buy her anything she wants, whenever she wants no questions asked. Let's just say I don't get payment in kind. I hate it, but I actually have a secret gun fund I use on occasion to keep me from feeling like I'm being treated unfairly. A couple of weeks ago I was able to buy one of the guns on my grail list, a Model 60 in excellent condition and a great price. That night, I had taken it apart while the wife was asleep when she walked in on me and caught me red-handed. Fortunately, she fell for the old "...what, this old thing? I've had this for a while" story. Yes, I do feel bad about lying to her, but it is what it is and the only lie I've ever told her.

Regards,

Dave

my wife is paying me back for the motor cucles that santa brought the boys about $2200. Her deal that she made now she wants out of the deal. That was my emergency fund. While she was pleading her case I asked her how we are going to fla for vacation with no money? She then replied last year you brought back 2 guns from fla that moneys not for vacation. I told her there probably wouldn't be any good deals this year so not to worry. Last year brought back a 28-2 6" with leupold scope on it for about $350 like new and a model 65 great shape. I just got in the scope mount friday and took the old junk one off. What a difference. Doeboy

DB1:
I just got a super match and am wondering what mount you went with. I just about can't shoot open sights worth a darn anymore.

I bought a match shooter spare rifle many years ago.
Traded for a birch stock for it a few years ago and put it on instead of the fiberglass stock that came on it. I expected accuracy to go down but it seemed to stay the same.

I've never scoped my M1A although I've thought about it from time to time. It has shot just under MOA at 200 yards with irons so maybe I don't need a scope anyway.

The M1A is the most consistently accurate rifle I have.
I'm very glad I bought it.

Don't get anything less than a sprinfield mount the cheap one I bought was a ***. Bolt wouldnt cycle just plain junk I think I got it from cheaper than dirt. Bought mine from the wholesaler. great instructions too on setup very easy. Doeboy

I bought the synthetic stock because I saw how much they were without the rifle. Cheaper than dirt or sportsmans guide has wooden take offs that look pretty good I figured I would get one later. Doeboy
