Recently purch. M29-2 73'. Claim was only 100 rounds fired and this appears to be true. No sign of wear at forcing cone, very thin line in frame at forcing cone. Condit. is excellent to mint. Took to range and after 50 rnds 44spc &
120 rnds of Mag. the cylinder sometimes won't turn. Took gun apart, cleaned & re-assembled, no change. Gauged it: B/C gap=.006 (good), Clyinder endshake=.004 (not good), Headspace=
.015 (excessive) & Firing pin protrudes .056. The cylinder stop doesn't come up when cocking the hammer until late in the cycle (when the cylinder does turn).
Whats the fix? Should I replace all the springs
and install an oversized "Hand"? The extractor rachet doesn't appear to be worn as compared to my M27-2 that has had several K rnds fired.
If the cure is just parts thats no prob. for me as I've installed triggers and hammers in my M27-2 & M28-2.
Looking for some good advice as this is my first used Smith. Thanks

Thanks guys especially VM/Mike, I condidered your offer but called a local G-smith a decided to take it to him. Glad I did. All he found were some burrs on the hand and the notch in the frame where the hand is guided. He honed them down and only charged me $36.00.

The hand may be bad. I had a similar problem recently on a 629. Mine was new enough that it was still under warranty and S&W took care of it.
I have some brand new "hands". I don't know if they are proper for you or not but we can talk about it thru email and if it'll work for you I'll send it to you for free.
My email is in my profile. Can you measure yours (overall length) and send me specs?
I'll help you out if I can.
Mike

Make sure the ejector rod is tight. Load sprnt brass before twisting and remember it is reverse threads.

Clean thoroughly under the ejector star.

Could be that the hand has some old grease that is holding it from 100% function. Lube the inside with some honing oil and dry fire it some.
