Two nice ones here locally...I have a new 640,and I wouldn't mind grabbing one of these to add to it while I have the cash to do it...I know the m60 is stainless, but I don't know much about the 36...both are pre lock, and look great they're both priced between $400 and $500, the higher one the m60...I looked them up but am curious as to the differences in these peices...I believe the 36 is an airweight, correct? Is one considered a better gun than the other? Are they priced correctly? Any info appreciated...

The model 36 should be a standard steel .38 special in blue or nickle finish, 5 shot, J-frame.

The model 60 is Stainless Steel and you will find these in .38 special or later production were .357 magnum. Both models had a Ladysmith model and none of them are airweights.

Just in case you don't know the new model 442 can be had without the lock and at bargain prices with a $50 rebate from S&W till the end of the year. I got mine for $338 after the rebate making it a real good buy.

Someone will be along shortly to correct me if I am wrong....

Both the Mod 36 and Mod 60 are great little J frames. Depends on what your needs are. The 60, being SS is going to have a little more weight to it and be able to absorb some of the recoil better. Did you determine whether the Mod 60 was the .38 spl variety or a younger model built on the J magnum frame. If on the magnum frame the Mod 60 will be slightly larger in size.

You can't go wrong with either of these J frames. I have both and wind up carrying the 36 more but shooting the 60 more at the range.

Don't know where you are from but around here, that is a little high for a 36.

OKC,Oklahoma...I'm sure the prices are somewhat high...I've seen a few on gunbroker in worse shape for just as much though...Some of the ones I've seen in pawn shops look like they were used as hammers...This 36 is in great shape, and the 60 in 38sp. is very good as well.. It's hard to find deals here...The gunshow prices here are major league rip-offs...What would you consider a good price is for these revolvers in excellent condition?

okc-zee - you have determined that the pricing is good for both models in OKC. Both are 5 shot J frames in 38 spl. I assume both are 2" barrels.

The only issue is whether you want a blue or nickel Mod 36 or a stainless Mod 60. The 36 is lighter than the 60 but the 60 in SS is easier to maintain and because it is heavier will absorb more of the recoil.

Since I have both, if I could only choose one, I would go for the 60 but its your decision. Pull the trigger and decide, both are great little J frames.
