I was at my FFL's today and saw a really nice model 39. nice blue, wood grips, 3 magazines. No box. Pretty sure it was not a police turn in. It was way too nice for that. This gun was taken care of. I'd say it might be 90-95%.

He had it for $399.I didn't ask but I am pretty sure he would go down some. Maybe $380 out the door.

What do you guys think it is worth?

Thanks

I'll assume it was a model 39 DASH TWO.

That sounds like very good price for a 39-2 in that condition.

A screaming steal if its a no-dash.

I have been trying to do some research on the 39s. Were all of them alloy frames? Were the early ones steel? I have been looking at photos online and the alloy frames look different than the one I saw today.

I guess I'm going to have to call the gun store back tomorrow and ask about the dash number. Pretty sure it was a 39-2. I think if it's a 39 no dash with the steel frame I'm going to have to break out the plastic.

So is the no dash model 39 worth more? I just got one for a great deal ($150) from a friends dad... It was a police trade in so it's been used a lot and not in mint condition. Just wondering....

Those are in NIB conditions... I'm sure mine's not worth that much.

Mine does have a date on the inside of the box as April 15 1955... I don't know if that's the manufacture date or if they printed a bunch of boxes and all of them say that...

You guys are making me think I might have something worth a pretty penny... maybe I should buy something else to shoot at the range and refurb the M39 or something...

I called back to the gun shop this morning. It is a 39 no dash!. Alloy frame. Can someone tell me what years the 39 no dash was in production?

Thanks

Hey, I've got one just a few numbers from that pre-39 listed on GB. Since I don't have the box...I'll knock $500 off his price for mine. Hummm ya, didn't think so.

Some of those prices are a little high. I have seen a few nice condition model marked 39 (no dash) in the $500 range.

I screwed up

I called today to talk about the 39 with the owner of the gun shop and he told me that he sold it yesterday! :-(

Should have grabbed it when I had the chance

There are a LOT of 39-2 guns on the market at the moment.

If you want a shooter, you can get into one for around $300 if you don't mind the re-import mark.

I saw one on the not-to-be-named auction site the other day that failed to sell for $200. It did have the CAI re-import mark straddling the S&W rollmark. Bet it was still a fine shooter.
