Hi All:

I just received a '79-'80 M41 and am eager to try it out. Things looked a little gummy inside so I thought I would do a little cleaning. The problem is that after locking the slide back and puling down the trigger guard, the barrel (7") is just a little loose but does not want to come out. I do not want to risk damage by forcing it or getting out the big hammer (just kidding). Any ideas for why it does not want to come out or safe options for persuasion? Thanks.

Humm, either it's just gummed up around the barrel seating or the little paul and caming part is sticking. Take the grips off and spray a gun cleaning fluid liberally around the barrel where the seating is located, move the lever up and down several times, wait an hour and try it again. Repeat if necessary.

That is good advice above. Once that's done I would suggest you stand the gun up with the butt and muzzle resting on a padded workbench. Then with the slide locked back and trigger guard down, put your thumb and index finger between the receiver and barrel extension and pull them apart. That's worked for me several times.

Thanks very much for the help. I did do the one-hour soak. That, some jiggling (of the barrel) and a very light tap with a soft head mallet at the muzzle did the trick. A little dirty and dry inside but that will be taken care of soon. Thanks again.
