The current 442's all-steel sibling. Factory cut for moon clips. No lock. XS Big Dot front sight; standard trench rear.

I'd buy two.

You'll have to settle for a 640. Steel in stead of stainless would be designated a 540 I guess- the 4 prefix & 42 suffix both indicate an airweight frame, 5 & 40 indicate steel.
I like the idea of a light gun for carrying and a heavy gun for shooting. My favorite EDC is my airweight Chief, but I do most of my actual shooting with my steel or stainless Chiefs (set up exactly the same).

Interesting. My thinking was that if the current 442 was an outgrowth or update of the 042, which essentially was a 42 minus the safety grip (though built over flawed 642s), then an all carbon steel version would be an outgrowth of a 40 minus the safety grip, and be called the 440.

I don't care what the number it, I just want it. ;)

It's a good concept. The lightweight guns are great for packing, but for shooting ... not so much sometimes. Another 4 ounces or so (20-25% more weight) would go a long ways toward making practie fun instead of grueling for the recoil-shy. Although I live my vintage Chiefs, I found a good deal on a used 442-2 which I'm buying tomorrow, and would sure think about getting a matching heavier gun to go with it if one were available.
