M52 trigger pull weight

I've owned my M52-2 since buying it new in 1973.
Over the years the trigger pull has decreased to around 2 3/4#.
To be legal for NRA Conventional Pistol it needs to be 3# or
greater.
I have never messed with it or even disassembled it beyond
field stripping. I have to admit I have done trigger jobs on my
"Bullseye" M1911's.
Does anyone know if there is a way I can easily "tweak" an additional 1/4# in to it?
Looking at the schematics I don't see a sear spring like is found on the M1911 that makes an adjustment like this relatively simple.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't shoot the pistol competitively anymore but would like to adjust it back to legal weight anyway.

There are three ways you can adjust the trigger pull. From simplest to most difficult:

Put a heavier main spring in the gun. Wolf should have what you need. Should be the same as a model 39. The hammer spring in a 52 is very light. You should easily be able to dial in an extra 1/4 lb but you will need to try several different mainspring powers. If you do this you might have to increase the power of your loads a bit to prevent short cycling due to the increased hammer resistance.

Bend the sear leaf spring a bit to put more pressure on the sear. You should easily be able to dial in an extra 1/4 lb this way. Requires the same disassembly as changing the hammer spring but more tweaking and patience to get exactly a 1/4lb increase.


Change the trigger return spring to a 3 or 3.5 lb one from wolf. The factory one is about a 2lb unit. This will work but requires almost complete disassembly of the FCG of the gun and some tweaking to avoid overshooting your 1/4 lb goal.

Also I think I read somewhere that S&W used to have different weight sear springs but good luck finding any.

You're still legal for NRA Conventional Centerfire . Minimum pull weights are 2lbs for 22 , 2 1/2lbs for centerfire & 3 1/2lbs for 45 . For EIC / CMP hardball it's 4 1/2lbs . They did make 2 different sear springs for the 52 , lighter for NRA Conventional & a heavier one for Intl CF . At 2 3/4 lbs you're OK . I'd leave it as is .

Dial up S&W and ask if they have p/n 062390100. This is the "heavy" sear spring. p/n 062390000 is the regular sear spring.

My old parts manual lists these at 15 cents each, but no promises they even exist anymore.
