M631 2"

Bought a M631,2" SS, non LS,32mag this wkend. Are these rare? I saw 1 for sale for over 2K. Randall

There really isn't much to compare to. There were only maybe a hundred or so of these built, and they are very rarely seen for sale. It's just a matter of how badly you want it. Ken

Supposedly some 5500 of these were made with only 190 being the two inch non LS putting a hefty rarity factor on them. However, I've seen quite a few for sale on GB and elsewhere and believe the number produced to be considerably higher than 190; just my opinion though. I would not be willing to pay double (or more) the price of a LS marked gun. I do like the little 32 631s though and have a four inch and one of the two inch LSs. Good luck.

And another thought, I don't think it would be very difficult to turn a $900 LS marked 631 in to a $1800 non-LS 631. The LS mark appears just etched and I suspect a small amount of polishing would remove it. Perhaps others will have thoughts on the difficulty of "converting" an LS to a collectible non-LS gun.

I agree w/ Jeff above, if there are 190 2" non-LS 631s and (generally estimated) 1500 4"-ers out there one would expect (over time) to see roughly 8 times as many 4"-ers offered. I've followed this mkt fairly closely for 4/5 years now and the ratio is nowhere close to this. This has always seemed odd to me.

Having said that, something pushing $2K is what I would expect a 2" LNIB to sell for currently.
