M642 Pro?

What's the general consensus on the 642 Pro for a carry gun? Yeah, it's got the IL, but besides that obvious distraction is there any reason not to look into this gun for a viable CCW carry weapon?
I'm thinking the Magna-ported barrel will help offset the light weight of this gun.

I don't have the Pro model but have owned a 642 for years. Great carry gun. The Centennials are perennial favorites of people who have spent a lot of time carrying. But I don't think I would want a ported gun for carry. I've never shot one but have heard the muzzle blast is nasty, and the escaping gases can be unpleasant if fired close to the body. In my opinion there is no need for it on a .38 Spl carry gun. Sure it kicks a bit with +P loads in a light revolver but I'll bet if used in a self defense mode, recoil would be the last thing on my mind. Just MHO.

I have carried a 442 for years, and have fired a ported .38 stubby Taurus. The port seems to make little difference in recoil with a .38 (unlike the IPSC open guns), and I don't like the blast in my face when point shooting. YMMV.

I have one and the port does help with the muzzle flip, the ProPorts are more like a comp than just straight porting. I also like the white dot front sight, much easier to pick up. I did not notice any more muzzle flash in the daylight, but I didn't fire the gun in low light. I can't see where the flash would be any worse coming up than it will going out in front of you, it will still momentarily blind you either way.
