I have had dry Macular Degeneration for some time now and lately I have a fuzzy spot in the vision of my left eye. They said it could be turning into Wet Macular Degeneration. I also have cataracts.

My Opthamologist prescribed me an optical device that I use at home to test my vision every day, although recently I only use if every other day or so, and the results of the tests are transmitted to the device's home base.

I was to see my Opthamologist in May, but was getting concerned about the fuzzy spot, so I was able to get in today to see him. Turns out I have some leakage in the left eye, although there is no bleeding, and he said since it was caught early, there is a good chance to heal the eye, through injections into the eye, which he said would be once a month, and possibly for a long time.

I had the 1st injection today and was quite nervous about it, but they numbed my eyeball and then did the injection. Never felt a thing. I now have a black spot in my vision which I was told was the medicine that was injected in the eye. Sure hope this stuff works for me.

Dr. said once he gets this under control, we can hopefully do something about the cataracts.

My brother went through the same thing a few years ago - the injections helped him and the black spot eventually cleared up - maybe a week or so IIRC. He has been fine since then but has check-ups every three months.

My wife has been dealing with this for the past 4 years or so. It was pretty bad at first but her vision in that eye has returned to about 20-40 and the Dr. says this may be as good as it gets. She has learned to rely on her peripheral vision a lot. She also had her cataracts removed about a year ago and that helped a bunch too.

Was diagnosed with wet macular degeneration in my right eye last week, had my first shot last week. Supposed to be a monthly thing.

The shots worked well for a friend of mine. I pray that your will have the same results. I was having a problem and being treated for MD and then I had cataract surgery and my eye had no further problems.

When I was 1st told about my having Macular Degeneration, the Dr. told me that a lot of times having the cataracts removed will make the Degeneration worse. Now that it has progressed to the "wet", maybe I can have the cataracts taken care of once my situation stabilizes. Here's hoping.:)

I had a Macular pucker, in my left eye which caused any line to be bent and wavy. It had become very disconcerting. The specialist I was seeing did surgery inside my eyeball, which resulted in removing the membrane that is in front of the macula. He had my regular Ophthalmologist do cataract surgery first. After 4 years the eye has a very small, maybe 1%, area right in the middle that is still screwed up. I have trouble with that eye telling the difference between capital letters C G O and when I look over my pistol sights at a bullseye target it is oval shaped when keeping both eyes open. I have also developed Ocular Hypertension and use a couple drops a couple times a day to keep the pressure down.

I agree, this getting older bit can be a big pain in the backside.

My wife has dry macular degeneration. (age 76) Eventually it stabilized and she is doing pretty well. We are both avid readers and found that an iPad enables her to read since she can enlarge the print. Good luck. Yes indeed this old age business stinks.

Hope you don't have more problems with your eye H Richard.

I am closing in on 30 injections to my "shootin" eye. Have a leak on the macular that the retina specialist said my require injections from now on to keep what vision I have now. The good news, the last dye test reveled the leakage is slowing. Not much fun, but you do what you have to do.

I had cataract surgery last Nov. Then had it done again in Dec. Much weeping & painful. Slowly getting better. Bright lights still bother me but at least I can still read altho closing my left eye I read better. Now the Doc tells me about M.D. in the near future. And Yes, getting old is for the birds.
