Hi guys, I purchased my first pistol and it was the SD9 after research and so far I am happy. I was lucky enough to find this forum to help answer alot of questions i have ran into already which is great.

One thing I haven't seen on here yet is I haven't been out to the range to shoot yet but wanted to know if there is a need to prep or condition the mag's by pre-loading them and letting them sit loaded to break in or condition the springs/mags in anyway?

Also is it good practice to leave the mags loaded fully at all times?

I imagine the best case is to use them by shooting them regularly which i hope to do alot more often but wanted to see if i need to do some extra prep work before i go out.

Thanks and sorry for the newbie post.

I cleaned mine when I first got it, loaded the mags fully and let them sit about 4-5 days to break in the springs. No FTF's, FTE's with about 1500 assorted rounds. Winchester (WB, SXZ HP), Fed AE, Hornady (Critical Duty, Critical Defense, Zombie max), PMC, Hertzers, Freedom Ammo reloads, Tula BrassMax.
The only ammo I stay away from is +P+.

Can't load your mags fully?
Sheesh, what a wimp!
Just kidding, new springs are tight so one of the first things any semi owner needs to purchase is a Maglula UpLULA Universal Pistol Magazine Loader. Best thing since sliced bread.
Saves so much time and wear and tear on your thumb.
Also allows you to apply more pressure for compressing the springs.

Mag loader

I purchased the HKS 941 mag loader. A lot cheaper than others and does the job. I did have to carve out one of the stops at the bottom in order to make the SD9 mag fit properly for loading but no bigge to do.

My speedloader came to me for free -- or at least the cost depreciated away to zero years ago! I put the base of a stiff-loading mag on my coffee table or loading bench, and push rounds in with my thumb. Easy as pie. Uplula making money suits me fine, but they don't need mine -- and I don't need them.

Loading and unloading of the magazines is what will work your springs more than loading and leaving them.

Thanks for the feedback, i have loaded the mags as of 2 nights ago and looking to put about 200 rounds through the pistol this weekend. Also purchasing the speedloader as suggested.

thanks again !

I did the same thing for my .40 and it works just fine.

I read that there were studies other read, it wasnt about the spring being compreased or relieved which costs springs to go bad, it was the constant bouncing back and forth that did. Most of my mags are fully loaded.
