Magazine Cleaning

I don't clean my magazines. I do break them down but I've never seen any kind of buildup to was impacting to the usability and reliability. Clean the weapon is done every time I come back from shooting.

How often do you disassemble and clean your magazines?

Disassemble? Seldom to never, unless there is some mechanical problem.

Clean? Only when I find the follower sticking, and then I simply blow the mag out with compressed air. This applies to every mag I have, no matter the brand or caliber. And I use no lube of any kind, even silicone spray. All lubes will attract unburned powder and other detritus and cause feeding problems.

I do wipe the OUTSIDE of metal mags with a silicone rag to remove skin oils and moisture.

I haven't cleaned my 15-22 mags, but I've only shot it three times so far. I just don't see the .22 putting out enough crud for it to require more than blowing out the inside, and maybe wiping it down with a baby wipe or something.

I did disasemble them when new and wiped the interior, slide and spring with spray silicone and then wiped dry but after that I may only repeat that same procedure once a year.

CLEANING MAGAZINES

After shooting each month, I completely strip each magazine and wipe the parts with a rag that is moistened with a degreaser. I inspect the parts and reassemble the magazine. A quick follower depression to see if the mag is working and I am good to go. I have never had a problem with misfeeds or malfunctions with any of the magazines. My primary semi-auto is the springfield XD-.40 cal. The magazines are steel and well made. Do not wipe with any oils, just leave the mags dry.

To each his own, but that's overkill unless one is shooting thousands of round a month in competition. Of course, if you have nothing else to do on a Saturday evening. :)
