New guy here and thrilled to have a M&P 9mm. Here is my issue, I switched out the mag release to the other side for easy left handed operation and now I experience one feeding issue on the last 5 or 6 rounds left in the factory mags. After some thinking and finding the consistency in where I have this issue I have narrowed it down to the follower in the mag catching on the mag release thus creating the problem. The follower also rides on the left side of the mag now where the catch is, so what can i do to correct this? I have not experienced this with the 2 Promags (I know, I know) that I have in stock form or in modified form with extensions on them.

It's a known issue, and the usual fix seems to be to call S&W Customer Service and ask for replacement followers of the "old" style.

They'll normally just drop them in the mail at no charge, assuming they have stock. I had my replacement Shield recoil spring in just a few days. Regular parts orders tend to take longer, but they seem to keep these "problem parts" at hand to be just dropped in an envelope and sent quickly when a customer is having a problem like this.:)

As a lefty allow me to offer an alternate solution; leave it stock.

This is the one area where lefties have the advantage. I use my middle finger to eject the mag. Using this technique allows me to drop the mag without shifting my grip. Right handers must alter their grip to drop the mag with their thumb. If you change the mag release over, you'll have to alter your grip too. Why make things harder?

Leave it stock. No mag problems and easier to operate.

I would've left it stock but i kept releasing the mag during fire, I'll try it again. All of my other autos I have zero issues with being right hand only. I did run a shield and kept releasing the mag.

I've never heard of that before JoeChef. I wonder if the mag release if defective. That has been a problem in some guns. I don't think it's because you're a lefty.

my middle finger on my right hand wraps around and rests in the mag button area so I'm pretty sure i push it while holding the gun in recoil

Hmm... As a lefty and an M&P owner I've never had this issue.
I'm actually going to purchase a 2013 model for the newer "trigger" reset,
and am wondering if this is an issue with the newer models or perhaps you
just got a defective mag release? If anyone can chime in with a newer
2013 model and give us some insight that would be most appreciative!

It's a grip issue. The first finger of your support hand should rest on your middle finger of your shooting hand. Otherwise it could interfere with your trigger finger. Try it, I think you'll see improvement.

I have a M&P .40 with a test fire date of 5/31/2013. Mine doesn't have this supposed great reset. I'm gonna call S&W on Monday and see if they'll send me a new slide stop. That is the part that has supposedly been reshaped to help with reset.

You're right, pointer finger set between the first and second knuckle.

I don't think the slide stop is going to affect the reset. Originally I had a "so-so" reset on my CORE, when I did the Apex kit I put the supplied spring between the mag disconnect lever (or what passes for one on mine, maybe a better term would be "lever to remove the slide without pulling the trigger") and the trigger bar rear pivot point. That gave me worse reset. I put the original spring back in and found that with the Apex FSS kit I now have an audible and a tactile reset.

Update::::::: Ignore the paragraph above (the man behind the curtain:o). I looked at mine again and I can't see how the disconnect spring has any bearing on the reset. Not sure why mine changed, probably from taking it apart and putting it back together. The only thing I can see the slide lock having an affect on reset is if they added a bit of material on the right side release that put tension on the trigger bar when it comes forward. Mine doesn't have any extra material but maybe the trigger bar is tweaked a little more toward the sear so that when the loop comes forward it snaps back to the ready position after it clears the sear.

Your powers of observation and reasoning serve you well young padawan. S&W did indeed add some material to the newer slide stop. It appears the idea is to do exactly what you say; put more pressure on the trigger bar so as to improve the reset.

I saw it in an article someone else posted here.
