There have been various threads on the appearance of the 15-22 magazine. Some folks don't like the looks of the magazine and have expressed interest in a Promag type 15-22 magazine or at least something that looks more like an AR magazine.

I came up wit this idea a couple of nights ago and threw together a couple of concept drawings. I don't think I'll do this mod because I'm not bothered by the appearance of the 15-22 magazine. Since this forum is about sharing ideas, here you go...

Materials:
- 1/8 " black Delrin sheet stock: available here among other places.
- small phosphate coated cap screws: available at your local hardware store

Tools:

- Belt sander (bench type or portable)
- drum sander mounted in a drill press (optional)
- jig saw or band saw
- hand drill with bits
- thread tap to match the size/thread on your choice of screws
- Dremel or router

Step 1:

Disassemble the magazine.

Using a belt sander, preferably a table mounted type, remove ~ 1/8" from both surfaces of the magazine. Some holes or openings might appear after the material is removed. That should be ok.

Step 2:( Repeat steps for both 'panels')

Mark and cut a rough outline of the magazine on the 1/8" sheet of Delrin using a jig saw or band saw.

Step 3:

Using a belt sander (or drum sander in a drill press) shape the Delrin sheet to match the profile of the magazine exactly.

Step 4:

Attach the 'side panels' to the magazine with small cap screws by drilling and tapping the panels. I suppose the panels could be glued in place using the appropriate epoxy.

Step 5:

Make a small rectangular base. Attach the 'base' to the magazine with small cap screws by drilling and tapping the 'base'.

Step 6:

Using a router, or Dremel with a router base, cut some light grooves into the side panels.

Note: I have not addressed the fitting details around the magazine release notch area on the magazine. This would need some figuring out.

I know this is a fairly involved mod but if you want a different look, I can't think of another way at the moment.

Nice idea. Another way would be to make a shell of the mag that slips over the existing mag to give the look without modifiying the mag at all.

It could be removed with each magazine change and slid over the next mag.

It looks like it would make loading the magazine a royal PITA since you couldn't use the load assist button.

Thanks a lot. I know this took hours, if not days. Your 3-d idea. thinking, and modeling tools look great.
