Magazine Problem, Please Help

Hey guys/gals, i`ve owned my SD 40 for over a year now and i have been really impressed with it, to the degree that it is my primary carry pistol. A few months ago i purchased a sigma 40 magazine for mostly range use. It normally feeds fine until i get to the last round and the slide locks back. I then slingshot the slide and the last round goes in. I only use this mag for range use, but it gets a little frustating. Are there any mods that i need to do on this mag ? Any input will be greatly appreciated, Thanks.


As a side note, the SD mags have been flawless with over 2k rounds through them.

Assuming that this only happens with the Sigma mag, and not the SD mags the only thing I can think of is that there is a burr or extra plastic on the follower of that magazine that pushes up the slide lock prematurely. It should be obvious and you can trim it off.

If nothing is obvious, call S&W, I expect that they will send you another follower or replace the magazine.

S&W shows different part numbers for magazine in the SD series and Sigma series. That indicates there's some difference. Quite possibly, the follower is slightly different. You might try swapping followers and see if that solves the problem. If so, you have a cheap solution to your problem.

No, but the S&W website, store section, lists the magazines. I expect the factory parts people can provide a definitive answer. Or at least some of them.

We don't even know which magazine you have.
There are a lot of the old SW40F magazines being sold in gun shows, and while I have made them work in Sigmas (modify the baseplate) I never tried to make one run in an SD.

The current Sigma SW40VE magazines have a different baseplate from the SD magazines. I know the tubes are the same, but there are several different followers floating around, some of which work best in the trash.

Whatever you do, don't start messing with the gun itself. A local DH bought a SW40F magazine which caused feeding problems, so he sent the gun back to S&W.......

I have long since been cured of buying unknow bits at gun shows and wasting time and money trying to make it work........maybe you have more patience than I do.
