I have a new Ar-15-22 with 20 round mags. The follower binds and won’t feed properly. S&W supplied row new mags and I have the same issue
I am currently in contact with them
Any one else have this problem?
I’m sure it’s not the rifle but bad mags
Design problem? The rifle is basically useless with an ammo source
Any advice about the 10 round mags?
Thanks

Are you loading the rounds per instructions in the manual, or are you just holding the button down and dumping them in?

The latter will result in feeding issues.

The proper way is to pull the buttons down slightly, load one round, release the buttons, and repeat until filled.

Yes MAGA jam even when empty Fowler gets tick half way

It sounds like the follower is hanging up.
With the magazine empty, try cycling the follower up and down a dozen or so times so as to maybe polish the track that it rides in. It may smooth out any burrs that are there.
If not, a call to S&W is in order.

Today I went to the range to fire my Smith and Wesson 15-22. Haven't had a problem in over 3000 rounds. Today two of my 10 round magazines would jam and not feed. Then my 25 round magazine did the same. Came home and dissembled the three problem mags. I discovered they are warped in the middle of the magazine so the slider will not freely load the rounds. Additionally, the magazines were difficult to load into the receiver. Looking back at yesterday, I had all the mags in a box in my truck ready to go. I had to cancel yesterday so I left all in the truck. It's been really hot here in Florida with temps near 100 degrees F. Inside the truck had to be 120-130 F. So, I believe the mags cooked in the heat. Lesson Learned.

My son recently bought one and was complaining about the magazine binding about half way.

Where the arrow is looks like it's pressed in. I'm wondering if a heat gun would heat that enough to bend up and then stay there after it cooled. Gaphillips does your magazine look like that?

That doesn't look right.
Using the heat gun is a good idea but I'd check with the vendor first to see if it would prevent a return if it doesn't work.

I just got back from the range. One of my new mags, that Smith replaced, split at the back seem after the first loading. It cause the rounds/follower to bind in the center of the mag. Whatever their using to join the mag halves is not working.

I love this gun and the reliability of the mags. I feel bad for the new owners who will be shooting it to find out their mags are bad from the start.

I had issues with several 25 round mags doing the exact same thing. I contacted S&W Customer Service. Explained my problem to the person answering. He told me to speak with Carey. She was extremely helpful. Understood my problem and said if I sent in the defective magazines she would ship replacements free of charge. This was about a year ago and they were on back order so it took a few weeks. She replaced five 25 round magazines for free. At $25 plus per I wasn't complaining to wait 5 to 6 weeks. Knock on wood, the replacements have ran flawlessly.

I checked the 5 replacement mags and the 10 new mags I got from Joe Bob Outfitters and there are problems with 3+ more. My 13 yr old Son can't insert or remove the mags without effort. The new mags are too wide and needs to have material removed from the seams to fit the magwell.

I kind of wish Magpul would get involved now... they seem to have a bead on polymers these days... this is getting out of hand.

I guess I hit it lucky. I have been using my 15-22 for eight years, shooting every week using 8 magazines. I had one that the feed lips wore enough to not feed reliably but the rest are fine. No splits or warps.
