Magazine sticking in 5903

I just grabbed a very nice 5903. Looks almost new. Magazine does too. But an empty magazine will sometimes stick and not drop free. Sometimes with slide closed. Nearly every time with slide locked open. Both gun and mag have been meticulously cleaned. Only have one mag so can't test it yet to see if it's the mag.

The gun functioned fine today shooting it.

Also, anybody have a line on the straight back factory grips? The gun came with curved.

Numrich shows in stock, higher price though. Make sure its a new one, sometimes their parts are used and you dont find out until you open the box. SW factory may still have available too. Also try a want to trade post in the classfied section. You could swap with someone who prefers the curved grip. Some times they're finicky. I have a 40 cal mag that works perfectly in my 410 that does exactly what you are describing in my 4043. Go figure.

If you want, I'll swap you a straight back grip for the curved one. I prefer the curved.

Check the mag well and the magazine for "shiny" spots, which are evidence of contact. Staining the outer magazine body surface with Dykem or a Sharpie and inserting and removing the magazine can give you an indication of where the contact points are....if there are any.

Also check the magazine release button to see if it is adjusted properly, and the body and spring. When at rest, the base of the button should be at, or just below the surface of the frame. If it has been screwed down too far, the magazine could be dragging on the release step when you are depressing the release.

To piggyback on armorer951's post, we used to be taught how to judiciously (meaning carefully) whack an offending high spot on a double stack mag body with a plastic mallet, or use a 6" file to dress the high spot. Yes, the "dressed" spot usually looked like it had been hit with a file. It worked, though.

Working gear. Didn't have to look pretty.

Let me know if you don't have any luck finding the straight (4006) factory grip.

Will do. I'm gonna order 2 more mags. Midway has factory. But cheaper than than Mec-gar mags. I know Mec-gars are great mags thst hold 2'mkre rounds, but for some reason I wanna stay factory. If the other mags do it I'll know it's an issue with the gun. Thanks for all the help.

Okay.

Presuming a normally adjusted mag catch nut, and a mag catch body in good condition, 'sticky' mags are usually an individual mag issue, especially when it occurs with an empty mag. The presence of a "high/friction" spot are often indicative of a tight spot that may need to be addressed.

I had a similar issue with mag sticks in my 5903. My mag catch was the issue in my case.
Once replaced the mag dropped freely.
This may not be the cause of your problem but it`s worth looking into.
