Please don't throw rocks at me... [emoji6]

I have a gen 3 Glock (3) hi cap magazines (1 1st gen?, 2 2nd gen, and 1 newer style) the older mags have "U" notch. The 1st gen mag drops free and the newer 10 rd mag does as well, but the 2 gen 2 mags do not. It feels like the magazine body is wider and gets stuck. I also noticed those also have a ledge up towards the top. I've looked from all angles and can't see what's going on. I'm probably rambling at this point, so here's some pics.

I searched this and can't seem to find an answer... please help as this is driving me crazy. I've changed out magazine internals with no luck.

Thanks, Brian

I tried to sign up and the stupid park the car to prove you're human thing keeps failing me, because I won't log info in for Ford....

There's gotta be someone here that can help.

Either way, I Googled it again and found something saying it's normal and nothing wrong with the mags... who knows.

I had a similar problem with a 92 magazine. The body was wider than my other mags.

I put it between two wood blocks and carefully squeezed it in a vice.

That cured the problem for me with that particular magazine.

If you decide to do this go slowly with the pressure and check often for fit in your gun.

It depends on when your mags were made. The very early ones (from the late '80s- early '90s?) would not "drop free". Glock changed the design shortly thereafter. I don't remember exactly when the redesign took place. There might be absolutely nothing wrong---just pre-design change mags.

How are you determining in which generation the magazines are made?

I have a gen 2 md 19 and the original 15 rd mags were not drop free.
There was an upgrade offered by Glock on the mags if you sent them
in but I can't remember what for now but it wasn't for converting to
drop free. After a certain date, can't remember when, the new mags
were changed to a drop free design which as I recall had a thicker
floorplate. I have one of those I bought at a gun show but the rest
of my mags are the older design. I never worried about it. I would
say your gen 2 mags are normal.

Your mags are normal. Here in NY we used to be able to only have 10 round mags unless they were made prior to the federal awb in 92, therefore we searched for the preban mags. You can tell which are preban glock mags by where the caliber is printed on the mag, the preban mags are printed below the ledge on the side of the mag, the post ban are higher. If the mag has a square notch it is fully metal lined , and will be drop free. If the mag has a u shaped notch it is not fully metal lined and will not drop free. Gee I did learn something by NY taking my rights away, since you had to be able to determine the age when you ran across some. Now in NY we are much safer as we can no longer have the preban normal capacity mags, only 10 round mags loaded with 7. I retired this year can someone tell me why I still live in the gulag?

Thanks for all the replies... looks like I have some normal mags and no issues.... I really appreciate all the help!

The key to telling if your mag's are not drop free can be determined by looking at the back of the mag..Where the rounds loaded hole is..If you cannot see metal on the inside surrounding the hole, it is a NDF, if you see the metal, it is a DF..
The DF mag's are metal lined, the NDF are not..
Take a pic of the backstrap side of the mag..

Here's a picture of the rear of the magazines... All of them look to have a metal lining.

Here's the older "U" notch mags that look to have a metal lining..
