*Update With Photos* .45 Colt Bisley Frankengun

I’m finally delivering on the promise pics. After getting the gin home and taking a close look at it I’m pretty sure the rear sight was made and likely installed by the King Gun Sight Co. Not sure about the front sight but the brass bead with the rounded rear sight blade make a nice sight picture! I ordered a Colt Factory letter a couple days ago so now I’ll wait and see how it left the factory and decide what to do with it at that point. The idea of having it restored is growing on me and I know it needs a little extra love since the safety notch doesn’t engage.

When I was picking it up from the shop I was asking the store owner if he had any more info on the gun but he didn’t know anything specific. The interesting thing he did say was that the consigner was a little old lady whose husband had passed and she took this gun in to the local PD to turn it in and have it destroyed. Fortunately and officer there stopped her and sent her down to the shop where I found it. Crazy to think that it was that close to getting tossed in the melting pot!

If anyone here has any insight into what I have here please let me know what you think.

From what I see, you've already identified it as a Colt Bisley model that's been customized and re-blued. Grips look like elk stag to me. I'm not knowledgeable enough to identify specific sights, perhaps someone else. IIRC, some of the King's sights have their name on them.

It should be a good shooter and that's how I'd leave it. No restoration. You'll never get your money back out of it.

Had the store owners put pictures like you you took of the gun for their Guns International ad I saw that gun would have sold faster and at a much higher price. It looks great. The front sight is much nicer than they appeared in the ad, too. Normally I wouldn’t like stags that thick but for a target gun they are probably perfect.

I'm no expert, but that sight reminds me a lot of the Millett brand.
They were quite popular some years back.
Yeah, I think you did good. Should be a fine shooter.

I second the Colt Forum . Some really nice people there , and a lot of knowledge . Helped me with my 1943 1911 and my Super Elite GCNM . See , they even have me using their language .

I’d ask the shop to pass your number to the old lady, maybe you’ll learn about the gun or the previous owner. maybe she has a holster and other parts?
