I am starting to see some of the old magna ring guns appearing on auction sites. I remember these guns being used by some police back in the 80's. The safety device required you to wear a magnetic ring on your gun hand in order for the gun to fire.

These guns, usually a stainless K frame, are showing up (deactivated) on some nice guns at attractive prices. I know that the frames had to be permanently altered for the device. I would not consider using the safety device but wonder if anyone has any experience with them. Would you consider buying a P & R 66 with the deactivated safety or pass?

Knowing the guy who did the original conversion (although I haven't seen him in years) and AFIK he is still active and working on these guns, I did place a small bid on one of the 2 1/2in M66s you mention. I did not, however, pursue it further and was outbid. IMO I would pick one up, but only if the price was 'right' for me, which is to say pretty low...as in probably around $400-450 or less for a snub M66-1. Others, of course, may differ, but that is what makes for horse races and ugly women getting married. :-)

I remember seeing those advertised, but none of the local departments ever tried them AFAIK. I wouldn't be afraid to buy one that had been returned to its original mode of operation, but I wouldn't pay a premium (or even the average price).
