I have a magnetic mount under my desk, to keep a firearm handy but out of sight. Previously I had a 1911 there, but I want to replace it with an N frame. As I went to hang it I wondered if suspending the gun from the cylinder for a long time might damage it. I think hanging from right side would be less likely to cause damage since it would be pulling the cylinder towards the frame.

Any thoughts?

I would advise NEVER hang or put undo force or pressure on a Revolver's Cylinder. Probably the weakest part of the chain - especially when loaded. In fact when I store my revolver's, I always make sure the gun is resting on the left side so that the cylinder wants to be pushed into the frame to the closed position instead of wanting to be opened. Less pressure on the locking mechanism. Am I OCD? Yes, but it can't hurt and might possibly help the longevity of the revolvers tightness. Just something I thought of many many years ago and it became habit.
