Magnum N Frames with 5" barrels

I don't have a crystal ball but with all the posts here the talk seems to be about the 5" barrel in the n frame revolvers it sounds like a sought after nitch in the magnum n frames?

Offering a 5" barrel on a 357mag N Frame would be a great place to start? Another in 41 mag too?

They used to offer it in the M 27 which I always thought was a great balance between looks and performance.

I'll take a 5" ejector shroud 629. S&W only made one as I understand. I think Doc44 has it. I had to go to the 25-7 Lew Horton revolver to get that combination with a big bore cartridge.

Yup the ejector shroud gets my vote in a m24(44spec), m27(357), , m57(41), m29(44mag), m25(45lc). How about a limited series of 0001 to 1,000 of each caliber?

I find a 5 inch barrel to be great for long distance shooting since you do not have to hold up too much of the front sight.

My first 44 mag was bought used in Sept 1967 from Hassett's Gunshop in Waynesboro. I was there when someone traded it in on reloading supplies. I thought about it that night and couldn't wait until the next day to see if it was for sale.

Lucky, it had not been sold so I bought it for $90 which was a lot of money back then. Through the years, I carried it all the time while hunting and shot several deer with one being at over 100 yards while grouse hunting. The bullet was found on the other side just under the skin while the deer ran about a 60+ yards and dropped. The bullet used was a Sierra 170 grain.

Then in 1972 while working in PA, I took it into a gunshop to have it sent back to S&W to have the timing checked. I don't think it was sent back to S&W because the original trigger was later found to be missing. The original trigger had a tit on the back for a trigger stop. It also came with a Myres holster. It was some time later that I realized that it was rare since it had a 5 inch barrel and was not part of the Harris lot. Here are some pictures:

Let's not forget Elmer Keith's 265yd shot with a m29/4" barrel. Hickok45 duplicated it on his you tube site. My point is the 5" barrel should be even more accurate.

I think 5 inch is the perfect field size for an all around packing/hunting S&W! I don't own one at the moment

I don't believe Smith ever made a trigger with trigger stop on it back then. Some later K frames had a trigger stop in the back of the trigger guard in the frame. A lot of them got removed because they were prone to get out of adjustment and block the trigger from going back far enough. Later guns still had the cut out in the frame.


On the other hand (and I don't know when it started and stopped) Smith did put a sort of an overtravel device in the way of a length of rod through the trigger return spring.

A 625-2 is my only 5"

It's my favorite on range days.

My 25-5 45LC is 4" and also a fine shooter.

My 5 screw 1955 45acp is 6.5" and rarely sees daylight.
