Magnum P.I.

Although I like Selleck as an actor, I think Blue Bloods is incredibly contrived and formulaic. It seems like every episode, there is one family member investigating and incident that another family member or friend is involved in.

Even for a network TV show, which usually don't tend to have much connection to reality, this is pretty unrealistic.

Never a big fan of Magnum P.I. I do like Selleck as an actor and we are regulars for "Blue Bloods".

A remake has no appeal to us.

My wife and I were talking about this . If you think of all the shows and movies over the years , it's got to be hard to come up with a new plot line . So , they do the next best thing , another remake . Those of us that are older , we can cry foul , but all the youngsters don't know any better .

I know nothing about a Magnum remake, and don't really care one way or another.
I do remember one of the saddest days in my life, was the day I realized I could never grow up and be Thomas Magnum.

Higgy Baby . . . John Hillerman was one of my favorite TEXANS.

And Scotty was Canadian.

My only concern is who will step into the role of 'Indiana Jones' for the continuation of the series ? - kind of like how 'James Bond' has evolved

Magnum is now latino (which explains the name!?!?), and Higgins is a attractive young woman and obvious love interest.

I'll pass.

Well, I don't really watch cop shows... and I can catch reruns of the old Magnum...

...so no.

I saw the trailer; like modern Hollywood, it's all about ridiculous stunts that are obviously special effects/CGI. Super PC too. Not interested.

The worst things about remakes are that you absolutely have to watch them and the original disappears forever and can never be seen again.

Also, you kids get off my lawn.

Sometimes an old show or film can be remade effectively. For example, I enjoyed both the John Wayne version and the Jeff Bridges version of True Grit. Rooster was one of many characters that Wayne and Bridges played over the years.

But Magnum, P.I. is too much of a character driven show to be remade effectively. Tom Selleck became Tom Magnum, and having a new actor try to remake the role is foolish. I saw a trailer for the remake. The original version of the show had a crime noir feel to it despite the 1980s Hawaii setting. From what I saw in the trailer, the new show seems like a poorly made action series designed to cash in on a classic work of television.
