Well I figured I should start out in this forum with a question about the Battery Assist Device made by Magpul do you think it is a good piece to put on your MP15 22 or is it a waste of $30 bucks ?

I have to say thanks to Brett248vista for all the amazing videos an I'm glad to be apart of this forum now!

What do you have to do to the lower? You dont have to do a thing to a Bushmaster lower. I like mine on my Bushmaster, it takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it.

Thanks
Bill

The 15-22 lower receiver is thicker than a standard AR15 and use of the BAD Lever on the 15-22 requires grinding on the receiver to make it fit. I highly do not suggest grinding the receiver! Never do modifications to the rifle that can not be reversed, and that's one of the one's I'd never do.

It can be "made" to fit.. But it's usefulness is not worth it.

Welcome aboard!

You have to mod the receiver of the 15-22. Regular ARs are fine.

Some people I've talked to still don't know that the M&P15-22 does in fact lock open on an empty mag and has a fully functional ping-pong paddle in roughly the same place as a standard AR. I say "roughly" as it is a little farther forward than normal, a little under 1/4" maybe, which isn't noticeable until you try to mount a Magpul B.A.D. lever. That requires some material removal from the front of the trigger housing.

Well this is the reason why I wanted to bring this up because I'm new to owning an upgrading thank you so much for the information I guess the B.A.D is a BAD idea for the MP15 22 so I will just save myself the $30 bones for ammo

Welcome to the forum. I'm new myself and there's so much good info here, it's a crazy little resource!

I have a BAD ordered. I'm going to see about modifying the lover on mine to make it fit. It's all up to you really. If you feel confident enough to do it, go for it. Bear in mind what Brett248Vista says though.

Oh I do I talk to brett on youtube that is how I found out about these forums ... I honestly don't feel confident enough to mess with the BAD Lever just yet maybe down the road when I finally get sick of using my left hand to push a button how lazy right lol.

ya im going to try and build me a bad lever for my 15-22 next week while im off ill post pics when its done.. if its simple enough maybe even a how to

I haven't spend a lot of time examining the BAD lever because it doesn't really interest me (I have no problem thumbing the stock bolt catch) but I don't see why you couldn't grind the actual lever, rather than the lower receiver, unless it gets too thin. But there's no way in heck I'd grind my receiver!

oh im not grinding anything.. im talking about building 1 from scratch, friend

Now I'm praying to the Gun Gods that its easy so I can see a how to because I really think that the Bad lever is a great add on.

Brett,

No, I meant "in general" not you, I know you can whip one up from scratch that will work. I just can't see anyone grinding their receiver to make the Magpul version work.

totallly agree .. never mod a rifle for a toy that may or may not work...

I wish I had seen these posts a couple weeks ago. I just tried to install my new BAD on my 15-22 tonight. I have been unable to make it function properly. Thanks tp your post I now know that I wasted $30.00. I am not going to mod. my rifle for it to fit. Maybe S&W will build one that will fit the 15-22.

OK... Seeing this I still ordered one.
Metal work has been around for 1000's of years. Am I missing the thread where a member takes the lever, "hacks it" & fuses it back together?

My personnel experience for what it's worth. I own two AR15 and have the BAD lever on both of them. Now I've trained with the AR15 for many years before the invention of this device. The stock AR15, although a great rifle, has some draw back on clearing jams and speedy re-loads. The BAD lever really helps speeds the re-loads and makes for one hand bolt back operation, which for me speeds up any FTF or FTE. Now, this means the world in combat and L.E. environment, for the casual plinker shooting paper Zombies, it just looks cool. It requires new training and skills to learn how to use it fast. It's not a bolt on and the unit improves the rifle, you must train and improve your skills to make it function well. It works for me, I now need one for my M&P 15/22 so I can continue that skill.

Many may say to keep the AR15 "KISS", I too agree, but every once and a while a good idea comes along and improves the operational value of a weapon, I'm all for that. Good luck. I'm waiting because I don't want to purchase the BAD and heat it up and bend it to fit the M&P 15/22, I can wait for one made for it, soon, hopefully real soon.. just my .02 cents..

I did not have to modify my lower or hack up the BAD lever to get it to work.

I took my lower and the BAD lever to my workbench. I test fit the BAD lever. I paid attention to where it needed to clear.

I put the BAD lever in a vise and gently bent it, test fit, bent it, test fit...until it was real close.

I then filed off a little of the lever's pad to get clearance.

Thats what Im talkin' about. A little " cause I said so" works most the time! That what Iv been thinking all night.

JaPes.. IMHO, unless your aim is to waterproof your rifle (now thats funny) or looong term storage. Thats just too much oil. Your rifle is weeping.

Light oil (just enough to make it look wet) on any MOVING metal on metal parts. Oil collects dust and powder
Dry lube (a touch) on the ramp and your Good2Go

Im just a middle-aged redneck not a gunsmith so take with a grain of salt.
