Magpul mid-length handguard on stock carbine

I was told on a facebook forum that it was possible and he showed me the picture of this but he hasn't responded on how to actually do it. I also called up RDL tactical a local gun shop and he said he could knock it out in an hour so I know its possible I would just rather do it myself to learn.

As McE pointed out, you would need a front retaining ring. The only way to do that would be to put another FSB further out on the barrel, and the functioning low profile gas block would have to fit within the Magpul hand guard. To see something similar to this, google AR 15 dissipator.
Be easier to just accept that the mid length MOE handguard is not made for a carbine length gas system rifle. You could always go with the low profile gas block and use a free float tube or rail handguard.

It can probably be done, like I said... it's been done with regular handguards. But you will need more parts and will have to remove the flash hider.
If I was really hung up on doing this, I would cut the FSB down so that I retain the pinned gas block, and then use a clamp on front sight base to secure the retaining ring, as well as provide for a front sight.
But you really would be better off just going with a free float handguard if you are going to go through the trouble.

Totally agree. I never get why anyone would go through all this trouble (something similar was asked here a few weeks ago) just to install a longer drop in rail. If you are going to all that trouble, just do a free float rail. At least this way if you ever want to change the handguard to another style it's way easier and you get the benefit of increased accuracy.

If you're married to the MOE you can buy a nice mid length barrel for what some free floats cost.

Rather than sawing off your front sight, adding another further forward and ending up with an M&P Rinkydink15.... if ya want a midlength gun then get a midlength barrel and be done with it.

That takes all the fun out of it. It took me two just to get a clue and two more builds to get it right. Now I have....never mind....a couple less than enough.

Think of your primary purpose of use for the rifle. Imagine what you want in your head. Buy the rifle equipped from the factory with as many of the features you want.
