I am having trouble deciding whether to purchase the Magpul MBUS PTS sights (which are for Air Soft) or the orginal Magpul MBUS Gen2 sights. Since these sights won't be used all that often I'm having trouble trying to justify the cost of the orginal Magpul Gen2 sights. What are your thoughts on this topic? Would the MBUS PTS sights be accurate enough to use on the 15-22? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

running PTS here. gun is just a fun plinker, so no need for heavy dough for some built up gun.

flip side if you plan to get a .223/ 5.56 then spend the extra with plans to switch stuff over later.

running pts sights on my 15-22, hasn't lost zero in 375 rounds yet. only thing is the long/near flips apart halfway when opening the rear sight.

i plan on sticking a rds on it anyway and using the pts sights as back up.

i wasnt planning on spending $80 on rear magpul mbus fr a rifle where i dont plan on using the iron sights.

Looked into this as well, my .02 cent is this.... First, it's still just a 22LR, whether training or plinking, you ain't taking into battle. Second, the Magpul PTS is the same as the Gen 1 or Gen2 in design, they are just using plastic instead of the special polymer for the Gen 1 and Gen 2. So not designed to be rugged or taken into battle.

But keep in mind there are two kinds of Magpul PTS and CLONES of Magpul Gen1 & 2... In Ebay they say stuff like "Magpul like" or "Magpul Style" that are selling for around $15 bucks. They try to get us to think they are made by magpul... Don't purchase them, they are very cheap and aren't worth a dime.. So buyer beware...

If you want good repeatable ACCURATE sights then get the real thing. If you want them mostly for looks or just short range close the PTS will do just fine. The plastic seems a bit more porous & fragile compared to the real thing but I haven't ever seen a broken one.

I have a couple of sets of the PTS sights & they seem to operate OK as far as flipping up & staying down but there is a LOT of looseness in the hinge area & the front sight pin is not concentric.

On the PTS, you can shim the hinges with small plastic washers & install a metal real front sight pin & they will actually repeat pretty decently. Not the most robust but on a play gun that isn't going into combat the PTS can make acceptable close range back up sights.

I keep a few sets around to toss onto sightless guns when I sell them as they do add to the looks on a bare rail gun when selling.

Go with the PTS Gen. 2!

What Aceman58 said.

Since I'm runnin' my old Eotech Holosight all the time, I only need the MBUS sights when I stupidly forget to change the batteries! Magpul PTS stuff is just fine for my M&P 15-22, IMHO. I think I paid less than $27 for a new set of them (incl. shipping) off of eB*y. And the Gen. 2 sights have a slightly lower profile on the rail.

YMMV,

Thanks everyone for the great input, as I mentioned in my orginal post these BUS's will be used for just that as I am running a Tru Glo RD at the moment. :D Ok Ebay, here I come!

***! I have been all over the internet searching for the Magpul PTS BUS's and they are running in the same price range as the orginal Gen2 MBUS's. I have read some of the reviews on the cheaper MBUS PTS version and they were not favorable! So if someone here in the forum could direct me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

The thing with the PTS parts is that they're made overseas and then imported here. That drives the cost up and makes no sense when you can find good deals the non PTS versions.

The other thing to consider is that since the PTS line is made in Taiwan, it's even easier to counterfeit. Some of them are even worse quality than the counterfeit non PTS stuff.

If you are military or LE, you can often get real Magpul stuff cheaper than PTS. Lots of companies give a military discount. Try DSGArms.com, RainierArms.com, TacticalDistrbutors.com

Are you just guessing here or do you have facts to back up your claim?

If you have facts then PLEASE point us to the REAL Magpul front & rear sight set for under $20.00.

Ok here is an update on the Magpul PTS BUS's. I ordered a set from Ebay for $29.50 and I made sure that the seller new that if for any reason I was not 100% satisfied that I would be sending them back (return postage pd. by seller) and they agreed so I will see what happens. Will keep you posted! ;)

I think the PTS are fine for a .22. I might add a set to mine to duplicate the real gen 2's that are on my M&P 223

You should check out outdoorgearbarn.com you can get magpul MBUS gen2 front and rear sights for about $80

Personally, I went with the Magpul set from outdoorgearbarn.com. I wanted to be certain that I will hit what I'm aiming at, and didn't want to take any chances.
That being said, I would not hesitate to buy the Magpul PTS angled foregrip (for example) since it will not affect the shooting performance of the weapon. But it depends on your budget, intended usage, etc.

Completely agree. I inadvertently bought magpul pts buis off ebay thinking they were the genuine magpul buis. The quality is leagues apart.
