Just picked up a new shield 9mm and have been looking at defensive ammo. Has anybody tried MagSafe® Personal Defense 9mm Swat 45 Grain Ammo. Its pricey but looks interesting as it has a pellet core that supposed to break up in drywall. Interesting that its not recommended for Springfield XD's.
45 Grain bullet weight
2,300 F.P.S. muzzle velocity
528 ft-lbs. muzzle energy
Swat loads have reduced wall penetration and break up in Sheetrock® walls.

Warning: Do not use in Springfield XD Pistols

MagSafe is my prefered ammo of its type. I can personally attest to its nonpenetration of interor walls , and I corresponded with Mr Zambone in the days when that involved a stamp.

That said , pre-fragmented ammo is a specialized product., not all around defensive ammo. There will be a shift in POI compared to "normal" ammo . It will hit low. Sometimes not enough to be an issue at expected defensive distances , so time a whole bunch, like 6in plus at 7yds. And yes , you will have to test in your gun , in your hands.

At various times over the years , it was in Mrs Biggfoots inside the house only revolver.

Boutique ammo. If you want good self defense ammo stick with what works. ...Speer Gold dot, HXT, Rangers.

No police or swat use them.

"Boutique" doesn't mean bad quality , it means highly specialized.

If you need general purpose SD ammo , there is a wide selection of "normal" and "semi-common" defensive ammo.

If you truely are looking for a specialized situation where lack of over penetration is THE over riding factor,( or for that matter extreme penetration), then speciality ammo may be worth a look.

[ In the situation of the OP , I'm probably steering him to conventional jhp . I'm just making the point of not making a blanket condemnation of specialized ammo in specific situations.]

That is what I was thinking of using it for, house gun only.

Might be to much to have to worry about during a middle of the night suprise. Might get a box and test it out.
I have been using cor bon power ball for edc.
