Am planning to take two NRA approved Personal Protection courses (Inside the Home and Outside the Home) at a local range. Unfortunately, the courses require "factory" ammunition be used.

The only "factory" 38 Special 158 gr LRN ammo that suddenly became available in recent days is made by Magtech in Brazil. I haven't had any experience with this brand and wondered what experience others have had.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience,

I have shot hundreds of rounds of Magtech, and have supplied thousands of rounds of Magtech to our CCW students and have found it to be very reliable, fairly clean burning, and reasonably priced. I've also shot a bunch of their 158 grn. LRN .38 Special ammo specifically, and have had good results with it as well.

Good to see a fellow Missourian around. :)

A friend killed a six-point buck and a doe with Magtech ammo in his Colt Trooper .357 several years ago.
Magtech was just showing up around here and he got a good deal on a box of it.
The buck was shot twice but the first shot, in the chest, would have killed him by itself.
The doe went down with one shot.

I have reloaded some Magtech .45 ACP brass that I picked up at the range, or was given. It worked fine.

MagTech

About 5/6 years ago I bought several thousand rnds of MT 9mm FMJ. IMO were very
dirty. Worked OK. Which I still had them today, due to price then. $100/1000 shipped
Good luck

I have been happy with the 158 grain Magtech in both FMJ and SJSP for 38 Special. On the other hand I stopped buying completely their 357 Magnum 158 grain SJSP rounds, big flash and lots of hot stuff flying out of the barrel. Even gave the ends of the box to the range people so they could show the Magtech Rep what batch I was shooting.

Many thanks to all. Based on availability, a reasonable price, and your collective input, I'm going to pick up 400 rounds of the Magtech next week - 50 to determine POA/POI on my 36-1 and 350to shoot the two courses. Will report back on the results.

I bought a box of 158 grain .357 magnum that had about 3/4 of the cases split down the side when fired. On the other hand, I've got CBC head stamps in my collection that have been reloaded many times. No doubt the splits were an anomaly, but I don't buy it anymore.

I have shot a lot of the MT target ammo in 9mm and .45. I like it, it shoots well and no dirtier than other brands of target ammo. I currently have a shipment due from Natchez for a case of 9mm and several boxes of .380 (all I could buy).

Sir, FWIW, I've shot a few thousand rounds of MagTech with no complaints. I've mainly shot .45 ACP and .38/.357, but also some .45 Colt, .44 mag and special, and 9 mm. In my limited experience, it's all been reliable, accurate and clean.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.
