Hi guys, i'm looking to add a magwell for a recently purchased SW1911 (sku108303).

Searched up several older posts from users who have experienced good results from Ed Brown and Smith and Alexander with simple drop-in installation. I'm not a hardware guru, so this is generally good news. Anyone care to comment more about these as I can't decide which to get among them? Cost is about the same.

Thanks for any feedback.

I prefer the one-piece S&A magwells myself. I've seen the two-piece come loose and lose the screw. I also like having the full(square) cut grips when using a magwell, they look more finished. The main thing installing them is to take care when putting the plunger/mainspring/cap back into the housing.

For carry or competition? For carry, they're a waste of money, make the gun print more, and add weight. Research over years of law enforcement shootings show that reloads during gunfights almost never happen. In 100 years, I think my agency has had 4 instances of folks reloading during the fight....civilians carrying CCW....just not going to happen. I'm having an off-duty gun built (commander sized), and it's not getting a magwell, but all of my competition guns have them.

S&A are a bit heavy, and the opening isn't all that large. Techwear makes a nice magwell that dovetails onto the grip panels (I have two of the larger XT models and they're rock-solid). Their Carry model would work for carry purposes.

For competition purposes, I've switched my two SS division guns to Dawson ICE magwells and they're outstanding. R,

Hmm, it's just for easier reloading at the range to tell you the truth. And I must admit, also for the aesthetics, lol. I've seen customized 1911s with magwell grips fitted perfected against lower magwells and the combination looks very complete, for lack of a better description.

I'm planning to install both the mainspring housing along with the magwell to avoid unnecessary complications. Right now, leaning toward the SA unit. Thanks for your input!

Anyone care to comment on the Ed Brown?

I don't know what kind S&W puts on the 1911 Pro Series but I like it very much, it works well and is not obtrusive. You might check with them to find out.

That SA looks hot!

WC145, nice shot of that Pro Series. I wonder why SW's own parts are not mentioned much with this add-on. I'll have a look into it.

Thanks guys.
