Last spring/summer I started carrying my 642 in an Alessi iwb holster. Things went along fine for awhile. I liked carrying it appendix. I would wear it on my walks with a tee shirt hanging over it. Late in the summer I developed a rash that required a non itch lotion to clear up. This spring I have worn it one time and the rash came back.

What gives? I don't think it is the holster as this one appears to ride below the rash. I think it may be the friction of the grips, Spegel cocobolo, or maybe the finish?

Anyone have any thoughts. I hate the idea of wearing two tees, one in one out.

Doesn't sound good.

If it's the grips, you might try spraying them with Lysol, wiping it off and applying a coat of wax... to the grips, not you!

You might also think about a pocket holster.

Here in South Texas it is usually to warm for an "under" shirt and IWB carry can be uncomfortable. Never had a rash, but between rough side leather, rubber grips and assorted gun cleaning and lubrication chemicals it is a wonder that there's not a large hole worn in my hide.

I finally found a holster maker - Tucker Gun Leather - who modified one of his stock designs with a full sweatshield and smooth side next to me. Absolutely wonderful.

I made the mistake of trying a Crossbreed holster one time. That sucker is lined with sandpaper. I have difficulty understanding holster designers who can't figure out what it takes to make a holster comfortable. Seems like it would be simple to design a soft replaceable/washable lining to minimize the chafing and keep gun gunk off the wearer.

There are a variety of "Belly-Band" holsters you might try. Some have soft material against the skin and conceal the gun, especially in the apendix position, and even a tee shirt hides it easily.

Like many tropical woods, cocobolo is toxic, extremely so to some people.

The suggestion to wax is excellent. I'd use something like Murphys to clean it well, then use something like RenWax or a good caranuba to seal it.

Another option is to refinish and seal with some sort of poly.
