I need to know the manufacture date of a nickel plated hand ejector revolver serial #26550. The caliber is .32 long. I need to know if it is safe to load cartridges for the revolver with smokeless powder. If not, does anyone know what amount of black powder to load them with?

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Irrespective of when it was made, if it is a S&W hand ejector it is safe to shoot smokeless .32 Long. The serial you posted is for an early gun. Make sure you are getting the serial from the bottom or the front strap of the grip frame.

S&M? I don't think the mods will allow a thread on that.

Any 1903 or 1905 (Hand ejector models/swing out cylinder) chambered in 32 S&W Long were made to handle Smokeless powder. Any factory ammo will be safe. 32 S&W (short) is safe also, as is 32 Colt New Police.

32 Long Colt is a smaller diameter cartridge and wouldn't hurt you or the gun, but don't expect anything but noise.

32-20, 32 WCF, 32 Winchester are all names for the same cartridge, and much larger than 32 S&W Long and will not chamber. 32 Winchester Special is not a handgun cartridge and wouldn't begin to enter the chamber. (You would be amazed what unknowledgeable salespeople have sold people looking for ammo!)

Welcome to the forum!

You have a Model 1903 - 1st Change:
if the serial number you show is on the bottom of the barrel and on the gun butt. Likely made about 1904.
