This morning in Hinckley, Ohio the annual return of the Turkey Buzzards was celebrated in Hinckley, Ohio. The legend is that back in 1818 the mass killing of wild animals attracted the attention of the turkey buzzards. The return of the turkey buzzards to Hincklely, Ohio has been an annual celebration since 1957.

Beware the Ides of March! Them buzzards are big birds! Ugly as all heck standing on the ground, but really beautiful to watch flying. I've noticed the Bald Eagles have been more active than usual up the Allegheny River. I should probably pay more attention to the road!

I swear I saw a bald eagle near work on the Mon. about a month ago. White head and white tail. It was pretty high up, soaring, so I couldn’t get a good look.
There are a bunch of turkey buzzards around there.

Yeah, Acorn, going West out of the South Side there’s at least one nest up on the hillside before you get to the Mifflin Road/ Homestead intersection. Another fun road that requires watching the road. West Carson St. I suppose that means the rivers are a lot cleaner since most of the mills are shut down. Pretty birds for sure.

The buzzards showed up in Ashtabula county the last week of February, them ones in Hinkley must be the stragglers.

SMSgt, I never knew that; not that I care to study what carcass they're cleaning off the road (which they do a heck of a good job at). But it's interesting they aren't cannibals, seeing all the semi-ground venison & whatever else they clean up. Thank goodness for ketchup, I guess!
