Amazing how this quote about the news media from well over a hundred years ago is just as applicable today.


Although I still find the quote applicable, I concede that it's probably not attributable to Mark Twain. One thing is for sure, conflict and mistrust of the media goes back much further than Mark Twain.

I looked at this attribution a couple of years ago when my brother posted it on Facebook, and found no way to credit him with the quote, or even anything remotely similar.

I've seen the Twain attribution a bunch of times since then, and none of those that post it have ever given a proper reference to the source it is quoted from.

Please pardon my possible use of incorrect spelling, grammar, attitude, spoof's and sources. One of "my" favorite, true quotes, "If you don't read the newspapers, you are uninformed, If you do read the newspapers, you are misinformed", is absolutely correct. It is incorrectly attributed to Mark Twain. I know this for a fact, because, I made the original 'quote' myself, while working side by side with Ben in his print shop. I feel much better, since I've been clear up this fallacy.

My suggestion is, if you don't believe what you read, keep looking around. Soon enough, you'll find something that jives with your world view and will reinforce your beliefs, preconceptions, assumptions, likes and dislikes, and give you a reason not to change any of it.
