Guys, ever since I bought my M&P 9C and M&P Shield, the Shield has become my "go to" CCW weapon of choice. The 9C is still concealable but a bit heavy and chunky.

I have been carrying my Shield in my JK Maxpedition with great success and no worries about printing. I haven't gotten any stares but it does kind of look like you are carrying a gun. But ever since buying the Maxpedition Fat Boy Versipack, this is so low key, looks like you are just a student carrying books. The only thing I don't like about it, getting my weapon out would be a bit tough in a emergency situation. I am thinking while driving, I can just lay it next to me with the zipper open just in case. I think honestly that would be quicker than if I had it stuffed IWB with seatbelt on.

Aside from that, I love the way I can carry a lot of things that my Max JK can't. I don't know if anybody feels the same. The one other disappointment is I bought a Gen3 Glock 19 and was planning on keeping it in my fatboy. But after buying the rare olive drab color, I now don't want to shove it in my bag as the zipper coming into contact with frame would probably scuff it. now my MP pistols, I could care less and I shove them in there without caring. The MP's seem much tougher as well and the Glock seems to be prone to scratches. I don't know, would you shove a glock or your MP in this bag, not caring?

Whenever you go the off-body route, it's generally always going to be slower along with, 'the deeper the concealment, the slower the presentation' rule being in effect.

Depending on how well you anticipate, train, etc...may level the odds.

When I carry my gun in my bag (generally after PT) I'll hang the bag from my front seat so that it's oriented outward...using the headrest as the hanging point if using something like a Max Jumbo. If it's a backpack I'll clip the chest strap together and the backpack straps along with the chest strap keep everything in place by attaching it above/over the headrest.

I do his not only because it allows getting to stuff easier because it's not going to end up on your floor boards if you come to a sudden stop, but mostly if you get into a car accident, you don't want a loose gun, mags, knife, cell phone, etc...flying around the cabin of your car, especially if you have other people in your car.

I could tell you about a buddy of mine that stuck his Glock under his thigh anticipating a bail out from a chase that started from a drug bust gone bad. They went over some curbs and speed bumps and just that much bounced him off his seat enough that his Glock ended up in the floor boards. As he was trying to catch his sliding gun from all the vehicle movement about 4-5 shots ring out....his partner is shooting through the windshield because the BG is engaging them with an AK.

My buddy's first chance to get some action and he blew it trying to be too fast and loosing it in the floor boards :D

My general rule of thumb is if it going to potentially hurt or injure me at 30 mph it gets secured.

Rant off

The first time your heart rate goes from 60 beats a minute to 200 because you don't know where your gun is, you will go back to on body carry.

That had to suck when that happened. Knock on wood I've been lucky enough to dodge Murphy on that one.

I often will use a Maxpedition as a travel bag on longer road trips. When I do, I typically will position the bag so it is within easy reach and the gun compartment is unzipped for easier access.

thanks

I general don't go to places that are dangerous and while I agree presentation would be slower, I am more worried about an active shooter than a robbery. I hate public places because after all the rampages I hear always, I now feel less safe in places like restaurants. I will keep it by my seat and have it like a carry bag
