Am I the only person that finds unsolicited offers to buy firearms annoying as all get out? I have never posted a for sale thread in the classifieds, yet recently I have received requests to sell my 681, my 586-3, and my 4505. I have never even stated in any thread I would ever even CONSIDER selling any of my firearms. Now maybe if I had EVER even alluded to the fact that I "maybe" would consider it, I could understand all the private messages I have received asking me to sell a firearm.

Maybe I am being rude, but hey, go beat the bushes like I did and look for them. For example, it took me 3 years to find my 4505....I didn't find it by sending folks private messages asking to buy theirs. I went to gun shops, gun shows, and scoured the internet until I found it. Are people really that lazy now? Part of the fun for me is the hunt.

Seriously.....if you want a particular firearm, put some effort into it. Or hey, here's a novel idea.....post in the wanted to buy section.

Okay, I'm off my soap box and putting on my flame-proof suit.

I wouldn't say only, maybe just one of the few. I think it's more that people admire your taste in guns, or they see you like the same things they do. If one of yours would fill a gap in their own collection, then they won't know if you'd make a gun available for sale if they don't ask... and asking when they see what they may have looked for for a long time IS effort!
Bottom line to me is that asking is a form of flattery, not an insult, and after all, you don't have to say yes!

Just figure out what it would cost you to replace one and then double it.
If they're dumb enough to fall for that, more power to 'em.:D

Not so annoying but I found it slightly disturbing when my neighbor walked up to me in the yard a few weeks ago and asked "Hey, you got any guns for sale?" I told him there's a gun shop eight blocks away and left it at that.

I must have beaters. No one has ever offered me anything for mine. Thanks for pointing that out! :)

I'll second this. Never an offer. But even if someone did I don't think it would bother me in the least. And if the hunt is fun to you then you should sale them and start hunting again. Just saying...

Same here - or, I would set a price so high that it would end the offer. And, if it didn't - I would run right up to the gunshop! :)

Probably not the only one, but oh my. This is all it takes to get one annoyed as all get out? Life must very difficult and stressful.

Do you mean go out and beat the bushes like PM someone who has something that you're looking for and asking him if he'd sell it?

Used to be the only way to get a hard to find gun was walk up and down the gun show ailes or watching Shotgun News ads religiously. The internet has changed that. Catch up, times have changed.

What's the harm in asking fer crying out loud? You don't even have to respond to their PMs, just delete them. Or doesn't your momma like you spending that much time away from your homework?

LOL....well most of your responses have been interesting, and others have been downright annoying ...... LOL ......

I find it hilarious we can have a thread about how "annoying" it is to have people calling the home unsolicited, but I should be okay with unsolicited offers to buy my firearms.

I hadn't really considered it to be a form of flattery but those that pointed it out, you make a good point.

DUDE!!...You have a 681?? PM incoming with an offer

I agree with the OP. I would be offended if someone asked to buy my guns, knives, binoculars, etc.

I recently suggested politely to to one member that he not pester his CPA, a former FBI agent, to sell his Model 60. He has already made an offer, and the other man isn't interested in selling his former service revolver. Persistance may ruin their friendship!

My feelings about this are compounded by knowing that some here just want to buy a gun cheap, then re-sell it. That sort of profiteering at the expense of fellow members just disgusts me.

I have occasionally been asked if I want to sell my car. I tell the party interested that if the car was for sale, it'd have a sign in the window.

I know what you mean....

I've actually had e-mails attempting to buy just the stocks off my guns...

What I find amusing is when they TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD SELL IT TO THEM FOR and then become indignant when I tell them to put in the time and find their own. It's almost as if they can't be bothered

It's like they think I am the KMart of guns. All they have to do is look over what I have and then "shoot me an e-mail".

Unbelievable how rude and obnoxious some people can be... even here.

I dont see it as a big deal. So someone asked? I have a few guns ive been meaning to sell but never get around to posting them. If someone were to ask and offer a reasonable price, id sell them. Besides, how are they to know you "beat the bushes for 2 years" to find it. Maybe you just stumbled onto it one day or it was won in a lottery, took in trade, payment for service rendered ..etc...etc.

I suppose it is correct to state there is no way for an individual to know how long it took me to obtain a prized specimen. That I can agree with.

However, most folks that are really "into" 3rd generation S&W semi-autos know the 4505 is a hard to come by model merely by the fact they were only produced for one year.

I'll take 'em!

(doesn't that mean he HAS to sell 'em?)
:D

Not if I PM a better offer. :D

Only had one offer on a gun I had honestly given zero thought to selling. The hardest part was that I'm kind of embarassed to admmit just how much I paid for the thing. You could say I bought it very, VERY soon. :(

Only slightly disturbing?
