There's more than a little irony in this. Chicago's Mayor Daley is one of the more rabid anti-gun pols around. Three dangerous guys escaped from the prison in Michigan City, Indiana, about 15 miles from Hizzonner's summer home. His armed bodyguard caught one of them this morning and held him at gunpoint till the local police arrived. If you can get the link, look at some of the comments posted on this article. There are still people who insist the anti-gun stance is correct; I just can't fathom their logic.

I/D,
You must remember first and foremost, that the people that spawned then brought you the POTUS, and have re, re, re, re-elected Daley & Son for 5+ decades are the very same electorate that wrote in half of those comments? Take heart that the "other half" of comments sounded like us!

Somewhat off the subject, but by what authority does a Chicago police officer have the right to hold someone at gunpoint when they are in another state? My opinion is that they have only the same rights as a citizen of that state, i.e., Michigan. I'm sure that there a state/local law that allows for concealed or open carry, and I wonder if this officer was in compliance, or did he just assume that his police authority, which ends when he leaves his jurisdiction, would be accepted since he was on-duty as security for the Mayor, albeit in another state. Comments?

That is the old dont do as i do do as i say! Rosie O'donnel has the same type of idea.. body guards armed but you had better not be.

In view of Chicago politics, the escapees were probably easily recognizable....they were probably somehow involved in the political machine at one point in their criminal careers.

In Ohio, and I assume it is probably very similar in other states, citizens may effect an arrest for any felony offense. The escapees were convicted felons, and committing another felony (ie, escape). Don't get me wrong- I'm not on Daly's side, but I think his security details was on safe legal ground. If you clicked on the link and read the readers' comments, there were a LOT of them pointing out the irony of Daly's armed guards protecting his beach house, when residents in Chicagoland don't enjoy the right to self-defense.
