Mdele 29-2 value

I have a Model 29-2 with the 8.75" barrel. The gun is almost pristine. I would rate it at 98% at least. The bluing is deep and glossy with not marks or scratches. The is just the faintest hint of a turn line on the cylinder. The grips are sharp and show no signs of wear. The gun has had a trigger job done to it sometime during its life. The trigger on this gun is the best of any of my other Smiths. The gun also has a presentation case that has no scratches. The interior was been redone by Mr. Cebull from this website. A few of the original tools are in the case. No other box or paperwork came with the gun.

I am contemplating parting with this gun soon. I understand the 8.75" guns are not as popular now as some years ago, but the condition of this gun should make it more desirable.

If I sell it, I plan to use a local FFL dealer. He is a friend and he would post it on some of the on-line auctions for me.

What I need from you guys is a fair market value for a gun like this. I realize there are no pictures offered here, but with the information given above, you can probably give me a reasonable range to price this gun.

Hi Sir if you are selling it at an online auction you are not really setting a price the bidders are. Are you asking about a reserve price starting price or something of that nature ?

You didn't mention if the gun was unfired (it sounds as though it has been, but not much)? If it has been lightly used, as you describe the package it sounds to be about $1000 +/- $100. As weatherby suggested, it may go higher with an auction bidding war.

I am not going to say it is unfired. I see that all the time in S&W ads. Then when you look at the attached pictures, you see a distinct turn line and other similar general use damage.
I am not the original owner of this gun, nor did I buy it from the original owner, so I can't advertise it as an unfired gun. All I can say is, it has been pampered during its life.
I understand how auctions work and if I sell the gun I plan to have a minimum bid. What I am trying to do is establish what a fair common sense retail price might be, so I can estimate a minimum bid price.

I would post it for sale here, but I have never figured out how to post pictures along with my ad.

I bought this gun because the seller gave me a really good deal on the gun. The condition the gun is in prevents me from shooting it. I prefer to shoot the guns I buy, but I just can't bring myself to shoot this one. I haven't convinced myself to sell it either, it is just to "sweet".

I would put it up for sale right here and call it 950 plus actual shipping/ins. Ship through your FFL friend and go Priority. I think valued at 1000 would run you 25 bucks.

Ship the presentation case seperate, and charge shipping. You can work out a fair deal with a potential buyer.

Of course, no one has seen what you have, but 98%, I am assuming a serial number starting with "N"...an "S" serial would be a bonus...

I would want at least 950 IN MY POCKET for the package.

Take pics with the stocks on, AND off. Good pics of forcing cone and top strap also.

Thanks for the picture loading tips. I will read up on how that works and maybe post some photos for your viewing pleasure.
The serial number does start with an N. If I remember correctly, the gun was made in the early eighties.
To be honest, the gun cost me $695 and a friend sold me his presentation case for $40. I am into the gun for $735.
My friend once had an 8 3/8" N frame Smith. Someone broke into his house and left with his gun collection. Since he no longer had a use for the presentation case, he sold it to me. I was hoping to get $1k, if I sell it.

You can always set the price you want in a Forum Classified Ad and if it doesn't sell within a reasonable timeframe, you can add "will accept a reasonable offer". You are under no obligation to accept any offer, and no one would think any less of you if you don't.

Whereas in an on-line auction, you do have to take whatever the high bid may be (unless you want to get really devious about it, but you don't sound like that type.)

In the condition you describe, with the box and tools, I bet you will get your grand, or darn close to it, in the Forum Classifieds.
