Here is a no brainer.....

The model 41 in stainless with the lightweight field barrel
the same style as made back about 25-30 years ago but
driled and tapped for scope / optic mounts.

Remember the lighweight field barrel is so rare and always in demand they almost always fetch over $300.00.

Another wish to Smith and Wesson, would be to manfuactue the
5 inch lightweight field barrel as a option or accessory.

I am sure they would sell a few thousand within the first one or two years easily making more than enough to cover any tooling cost which
should be very minimal.

S&W 641, eh?

I'm not sure it would be a hot seller. At ~$1000 per gun, it would mainly appeal to Bullseye and competition shooters (and collectors), and there's already a bunch of blued M41s (new and used) on the market already.

I might like to have stainless barrels or slides, however...but aftermarket (stainless) barrels are already made by other custom manufacturers (Clark Custom, for one, and I know there are one or two others).

As a limited run? Maybe.

I'd like to have one too! There shouldn't be any development and minimal tooling costs (probably need carbide cutters). Just shove a chunk of stainless steel in the machinery instead of the carbon steel and let the NC mills work their magic!

I got a new Model 41 back in 2007. Due to some sickness in my family, I never had time to take it out and shoot it. I "rediscovered" it in the safe this spring, and it has become my favorite gun. I've shot it every weekend we've had good weather since then. My buddy liked it so much he got one last week. I think we'd both be excited to pick up a new 641.

So how does you're buddies gun shoot? I have been entertaining a new Model 41 (since they are relatively unchanged, I'm told), but I'm not sure how the latest build quality ranks.

It shoots great! I can't tell any difference between his and mine. To be fair, I got mine new in 2007 so both are recent production. I have never had a chance to shoot one from the 1960s or 70s, but I'd like to. I posted a thread in the semi-auto forum with a pic of a group I got.

The Model 41 has become my favorite pistol!
