Mec-Gar Magazines... Nickle or Blue? Which do you like?

For those of you who use/like Mec-Gar Magazines, which do you prefer? Why?

Looks? Performance? Something else?

Those that function. A mag inside the gun, inside a holster underneath a shirt/sweater ......look is irrelevant. However, in some places along the coast line one might be more prone to rust then the other. I have always had nickel but only because they were either a little cheaper or only ones available

Thanks for saving me the T&E to type this Arik

It's not the dumbest question ever :p

Just wanted insight. I've never had a non-SS S&W magazine so I wondered what the chances of a blue mag rusting, or say how oof the nickle mags would look while in an open-top mag pouch on a duty belt.

Ya know.... thinking outside the (litter) box :D

Besides.... I could not sleep and it seemed like a good question at the time since the mags are available and cheap.

Grog, you may want to check ebay for factory magazines. I have bought factory mags there at reasonable prices. Bob

I don't know how nickel lasts long term. I know it eventually peels off of revolvers. Keeping them in a mag pouch? Dunno! On the other hand bluing does scratch and wear too. My experience with blued guns is that where the bluing is missing it will develop oxidation when in a wet environment. Which is fairly easy to take off with some oil and a rag or 0000 steel wool

No preference-I have about a dozen of them mostly blued. They both work great.

I usually prefer to buy nickel plated, but not based off of any bad experience with blued mags. I think it's just my perception of the nickel mags being so shiny and smooth, really.

I own both types for the 59 series and have had no finish or function issues with either, so I's say buy the kind you want to and you'll be happy with them.

Mmmmmm.....shiny.....

I'm with the "bought both, both work, no complaints on either" crowd. Nickel seem to be just a noodge smoother and a little more rust-resistant, and so I'll pay a buck or two more for nickel. But I would not pass up a screamin' deal on blued ones, if it came wanderin' around.... :D

I am thinking the only nickel mags I have are ACT-Mags for a P220...which work flawless ........all my 3rd. gen mags ...save for 1 blue 3913 mag...are SS....and at the current availability of 3913 mags...I will take even pink ones:p...if the price is reasonable;)

I believe Mec-Gar has finally started offering stainless mags...or, am I mistaken about that?

SS mags would be my first choice...

As MecGar mags are generally used for practice, I am fine with either blue or nickel, whichever I can find at a better price. I realize that MecGar makes factory magazines used by the gun company in many cases, but I still prefer to use factory original for carry.

Well all my Mec-Gar magazines feed my Sig Pistols and they are considered the best by me and most people on the Sig forum and they actually supplied the Sig factory magazines for many years. I have both blue and nickel Mec-Gar magazines and in terms of performance they are equal in everyway. I buy mostly the nickel because I like them but once they are in the pistol you wouldn't know until you pull them out.

My carry pistol is a Sig P228 9mm and it only has Mec-Gar magazines going into it because that's all I will buy.

I love the extra capacity Mec-Gar magazines. I wish I could afford to buy more of them. Given the cost, I usually buy the blue ones, to save a few dollars.
