I am in the market for a medium sized 22 semi-auto. I don't want a pocket auto... I want a gun I can comfortably get a grip on. I want a smaller gun than a Ruger / Browning. There used to be a lot of guns offered in 22/32/380 cals with the 22 as trainers for the bigger calibers.
Did S&W ever offer the Wather type PP/PPK guns in .22?

The Walther P22 sounds to be what you seek size-wise, along with the Sig-Sauer Mosquito. I have not shot either but others here have. Another option would be a used S & W 4.5" 422/622/2206.

There is currently a Walther PPK produced in .22 LR, but I don't think there was one when the S & W/Walther marketing agreement was active.

Check out the Beretta Neos with the 4 inch barrel ,excellent pistol with a very nice grip easy on the hand and right on for point of aim, and the price point is way under 300 bucks , you will be very hard pressed to find negative remarks on this pistol, love mine , never a problem with any kind of ammo

I had a Beretta Model 87 Cheetah,which was a fun gun.Now discontinued.

The Walther P22, Sig Mosquito and the Ruger SR22 all fit that bill. I've owned the first two. I've also fired my buddy's Ruger SR22 extensively. The Walther P22 is a great little gun but the sights are poor and the sig is super ammo finicky. ( Read MININMAGS only) Of the three, I'd rate the SR22 the highest in overall performance and reliability.

The PPK in .22 was introduced last year but try the trigger before buying, plus it seems smaller than the other guns mentioned.

I was looking for something similar last summer, I never bought anything but had settled on the Ruger SR22. Tried one at the gun shop and the trigger was pretty good.

Have you ruled out revolvers?

I do have a M34-1 that I bought new back before the dawn of time... a fine revolver. I'd like to have a semi-auto kit gun as well. I've owned Rugers in the past & have a Ciener conversion on the 1911 (but they are too big & heavy).
A lot of what's been suggested is bigger than my idea or plastic or ... I really was thinking PP / PPKS but the reviews are not great. Wish there was a CS9 or a 3913 in 22LR.

All suggestions are appreciated. I've been Googling them to get an idea what each is like. Just doesn't give a sense of in the hand. I continue to follow these suggestions. As soon as the snow lets up, I am going to handle as many as I can find in stock.

There are several makes to choose from. This Beretta Cheetah is toward the top of the line. I hear a lot of bad comments from Walther P22 and Neos owners. Check out Rimfire Central for more info.

I recently shot a Ruger SR22 --- I was impressed with how much gun this was for the money.

I can tell you as a Neos owner for many years they are fine target pistol mine has been trouble free , as for the Walther had one but not for long way to many ammo feeding problems with it

Years ago I bought a Llama 22LR... after shooting my friend's 32. His was a fine gun but mine rattled when shaken & accuracy was such that a soft drink can would only be hit by accident... it's long gone now.
I am looking at the Browning 1911-22 but none are available locally & I'm unwilling to buy sight unseen.

I am searching all the suggestions.

I really liked how the Neos fit my hand --- Reminded me of the fit of my Model 41. However, at that time, Neos owners who posted on Rimfire Central (shooters with a wide variety of experience -- kinda like this forum) were having all kinds of mechanical problems. Including having the Neos fall apart -- convinced me (right or wrong) to get the Cheetah, which has also been trouble-free.

I have been a member of the forum you mention for several years could you please direct me to the post you mention because I would like to see what was said and actually how long ago this was .Thanks

I've shot the Sig Mosquito... Sweet!!! My father-in-law has one. It is a fun gun to shoot, fits nicely in the hand and is small enough for concealed if that's what you want in a pinch.

I saw one last Sunday at LGS. Mosquitos seem to be holding about $400-$450 around here. I don't see a lot of them on the shelf, but when I do, they don't last long.

Assert your 2nd Amendment. Conceal or Open Carry. Just do it legal.

Look I get it --- you love your Neos --- people sometimes have different experiences with the same piece of equipment --- We all get to have our own opinions

IF you're a member of RFC you should know that all you have to do to archive is type in NEOS in the Beretta section --- and it wasn't A post; it was again and again.

Here's a post from a couple years ago ---

I don't care to comment further except to say that I've shot more than 10,000 rounds (probably 3 times that) thru both a Ruger Standard and a S&W 41 and have NOT had the first problem.

POST @ RFC

Here is my HONEST thoughts and experiences.

I own two, an original Neos Deluxe, and a slightly later model SS with 4.5 and 6" barrels.
I'd be under-estimating to say each pistol has 10,000rnds through them...mostly high velocity bulk type ammunition. They get shot a LOT, but also still look nearly new. They are well taken care of.

Deluxe Model:

Rolls pins for the rail have been replaced 3 times. The rear one is the first to give fits. (The smallest, weakest steel parts on the pistol, that also take the brunt of the recoil!) These are difficult to get from Beretta, and their customer service is less than stellar...and less than happy to just send you these parts.

Recoil spring and striker spring replaced twice.

Slide showing peening from the disconnector/transfer bar.

Rear sight blade (Flimsy, plastic) replaced on warranty twice. I'm yet to see one stock that is LEVEL and true from the factory.

Standard SS Model

All Roll pins for rail replaced once, rear pin replaced three times.
With both pistols they bend, and the inner piece works loose and they start to walk.

Also replaced both recoil and striker springs twice.

After ~6,000rnds the standard starting doubling.
The sear was replaced as it had began to round off, and occasionally would double.

Frame has been bedded to keep the uppers tight to the lower--likely because this one gets barrels changed frequently.

Pistol will extract unfired rounds perhaps 10% of the time...when new was 95% of the time.

Slide also shows peening from disconnector/transfer bar. Ugly, but doesn't seem to affect performance. Stops wearing after the first few thousand rounds.

They definitely take more care and concern than some of my other rimfire pistols...but they are also the favorites among women and younger shooters. They are ergonomic and they work. I probably wouldn't own either anymore, if they weren't so popular among family and friends.

I really prefer a hammer to a striker gun. Is the MP22 exposed hammer? My junk Llama would have been ideal if the accuracy hadn't sucked. Mine was the era with the 'vent rib' while my buddy's even then older model had none.
I admit I'm not up on recent products, which is why I need this thread. I don't know that I'll shoot it a whole lot... but I want a gun like all my S&Ws which will work went I reach for it & be a good working legacy & not need repairs than may not be available down the road.
I am indeed interested in the SIG Mosquito, Beretta Cheetah,
I've found pictures of guns that I'd like to know more about: Taurus PT22, Walther TPH, Walther PPK/S (I do note the listed trigger pull as excessive), American Arms PK22.

The M&P 22 is a full sized gun, it is hammer fired but the hammer is concealed so it appears to be striker fired. One other that is smaller than full size is the Browning 1911-22, it's about 2/3rds the size of a regular 1911. I have had good luck with the Walther P22s' although none were early editions which I understand had some issues. Of those guns you list the TPH is hard to find and usually $700+, the PT-22 is the size of small Berettas and the PK-22 which I believe is the same as the old Iver Johnson are all pretty small pistols, smaller than the PPK-22. If you want the exposed hammer then the P22, Sig or SR22 sound like your best choices.

I've enjoyed a Walther P22 for several years now. I've never had ammo issues - I have the A series magazines. If as appears likely, my new-to-shooting older brother buys the Walther, I'm going to replace it with a Bersa .22
