LEO Marked S&W Semi-Autos

So far, my only LEO marked handgun, a Model 645 that saw service with the West Haven PD. I presume it was West Haven, CT.

This was it's condition when I purchased it from a sporting goods store. I have replaced the stocks and I have both a 645 and a 4506 replacement thumb safety, thinking I might install the 4506 safety.

I've never been a specific collector of agency marked guns, even though nearly all of the S&W guns I own have some sort of military or police previous ownership.

I do have a CALDOC 6906 with the frame, slide, and barrel (what I call) "assembly" numbers, although no agency name.

I also have a CHP4006TSW, again with the 3 "assembly" numbers and the distinctive "CHPxxxx" serial number, but no agency name.

My only Agency named S&W pistol is a 4586TSW with "SAYREVILLE P.D. 034" laser etched on the right side of the frame dustcover.

The only Sayreville I can find is in New Jersey.

The only other distinguishing feature is a lack of a rail and the rail holes factory plugged with black rivets.

I believe that CA referred to them as inventory numbers, but it doesn't really matter.

I had Dept. of Corrections 3913 that was marked that way.

My understanding is that all CA state agencies bought off of the CHP contract. Besides DOC and CHP, there was another agency that someone mentioned at one time. Maybe Alcohol Beverage Control enforcement as the website says they are fully sworn officers. They investigate illegal marijuana growers as well as other non alcohol crimes.

"Inventory numbers"

That sounds better than "assembly" numbers.

I can just imagine having a couple dozen in front of me, all disassembled for cleaning, and I was in a hurry.

Makes it a lot easier to figure out what goes with what.

At least in theory it shouldn't matter what goes with what. Other than TSW guns of course.

At least that's what Eli Whitney told me. ;)

I learnt how to post images! (nothing like reading the FAQs :)) So I am replicating my post.

I own a Sigma issued to the Western Australia Police (WAP) force, and has a special WAP### serial number and the entire logo beautifully engraved on the receiver. These were issued to the WA police in the 90s and replaced by Glocks. It was issued with a front rail and two magazines, and I have the original carry case and factory paperwork, also.

These don't have LE agency markings but were used by LE. The 39-2 was my Dad's gun that he carried on duty when he was a reserve deputy sheriff in Mariposa county California in the 80's. It was one of the first guns that I ever fired as a kid. I remember my Dad teaching me to shoot when he would take me to the range with some of the deputies.

The 6906 has a CAI import stamp. I believe it was an Israeli police gun. I'm not 100% sure it is from Israel but from what I see online, a lot of used S&W handguns with that Century Arms import stamp are from Israel. I would like to know where it is from. I called Century Arms and asked them for information about the gun and was told that they don't give out that information. In the past you could call S&W and they would tell you where the gun was shipped to from the factory but I think that now to get that information, you have to join the S&W historical foundation and pay $100 to get the factory letter. I can pay that money but if the gun wasn't shipped directly to the country where it was used, then I won't get the information that I am looking for. Can someone here tell me where this 6906 was used by LE or military?

Since Agency Marked Smith's is my focus of collecting, I'll gladly chime into this thread. Lets start Old to New with this Model 59 Stamped from Fresno Co from 1974-75.
I then found a 469 from 1988 with a rack number on the frame and import mark suggesting it coming back from Israeli service.

As other posted there's Newark PD's heavily labeled 3953 from 1991 - 1993.

I love this example of a 5943 from Cleveland Ohio PD that is fantastic condition. I added the straight grips and this is a fun piece to bring out for some variety at range gatherings.

Staying in DAO land there's the Brinks boat anchor of steel 5946 TSW that's seen a thing or 2 I'd bet.

A 6946 from Falls River MA PD circa 1995 or so.

I found this 6906 with GCSD 50 engraved and I've never quiet nailed down who that's from but the serial number puts it around 1991.

And finally my 2 favorites. A 5903TSW from the Gwinnett County GA Department of Corrections circa 2002.

And my daily carry 3914DAO produced in Springfield for NYPD of duty carry and still going strong .

Police marked autos

I don’t think there’s been a single concise thread here on LEO issued and/or marked semiautomatic pistols, in particular Third Gens, but certainly not limited to.
Let’s start it off with the seldom encountered NYPD 3983. A never adopted model that is rumored to be with only ten in existence.
I have one and Mr. Robert Vivas as four others. Where are the other five???

Anyhow, have at it- let’s see your LE marked Smiths!

Atlanta Police 4003TSW. No rail
And a GEORGIA STATE PATROL 4506

I have this 6906 issued by the Polk Co. (Florida) Sheriff's Dept. Thinking about setting up a small display at the annual meeting in June, in NC. Former Polk Co. Sheriff Deputy and fellow forum member JimmyJ, provided me with some valuable information that only one who was there when these were used could provide (Thank you, Jimmy!)

Right now not too many S&W 3rd Generation pistols except the 5946’s which I bought one at AIM Surplus. Might buy another one when I send this one off to Guzzi to perform his magic

Probably one of my most prized guns, a Fresno Sheriff 4566TSW. I also had a 1076 with what looked like some sort of agency inventory number right below the serial but I sold it off before I found out who issued it.
