Medal Display

Hi:
While searching for something else I discovered a few medals from my younger days.
I am considering mounting them in a shadow box for my grandchildrens.
How are medals mounted?
1. Glue
2. pinned
3. ??

I use 2 sided tape to minimize defacing the metals.

I think you meant medals. If so, you can use velcro dots that you can buy at the hobby store. Easy to adjust and last forever.

If you go to a frame shop, or somewhere like Michael's or Hobby Lobby they have frames and materials made for these things.

before I knew the craft and frame places did this, I took apart an old jewelry armoire and jewelry box and used the velvet sections for rings and such and some of the medals, I was able to simply slide the pin section of the back into the ring grooves, others I had to actually pin them on the velvet. Then I mounted the velvet into a shadow box.

I actually had not thought of the velcro dots/strips.

If you use a cloth background over foam, you can push the pin into the foam and put the sticky part of the velcro dot on the back of the medal. (Rubber cement is better than the adhesive on the back of the dot; it cleans off easier.) The velcro will hold the medal to the surface of the cloth.

Nice set up

The nicest displays I have seen-(we gave one to our son-and I have one)-
A shadow box with the medal (s) mounted about 1/4 inch away from the frame backing-It looks as if the medal is floating in the box-very nice- The first such mounting I saw was a Purple Heart-beautiful-

When I did my grandfather's military medals and my shooting medals, I used fishing line through the loop or the ribbon and tied it in the back of the board and then placed tape over it to help hold it. Both were done in deeper set frames, almost like a shadow box, about an inch in depth.
