At the 2017 Smith & Wesson Collector's Association Annual Symposium, the members voted to remove the age restriction on membership to the SWCA as well as the requirement for a sponsor.

As soon as my daughter heard she qualified for membership she insisted I sign her up right away. Already an Endowment Life Member of the NRA (for over 9 years) she was excited to finally be able to join the SWCA as Member number 3172!

Her favorite part of the package was the membership card, "Look, Mr Jinks signed it himself!"

Her username here on the forum is "Mini.Katie"

But you forgot to mention HOW young the youngest member is...

Please tell us, and awesome for you that a youngster today has her attitude.

Congratulations to your daughter! I'm heartened to see young people (and especially a young woman) take an interest in this. Hopefully we'll see her at a future conference, and perhaps (with her parents' help) a display.

I liked this post Dave and congrats to your daughter.

BUT, while I dont have an issue with the lifting of the age restriction I do have an issue about the no sponsor needed.

I believe age is not an indicator of maturity. God knows we all know folks well into their adult years that aren't anywhere as mature as Katie.

The sponsorship was supposed to help insure the quality of the members of the SWCA. Although that wasnt a sure bet, it helped.

No matter I am not a member any more (you know why). I am not trying to poop on your thread but felt I needed to add my .02.

Give my best to your daughter and hopefully I will see you in Tulsa in Nov.

Welcome Katie !!! Do you have a particular area of interest within the world of S&W's? Will we all have the opportunity to meet you in Reno next year?

Wonderful!! Looks like you need to buy her some patches for the knees of her pants!!!:D:rolleyes::eek:
They paid extra for that "pre-destressed" look. [emoji6]

Congrats to the young lady!!

Katie, who is still getting her forum sea-legs, would tell you the pants are a fashion statement. She had to buy them with her babysitting money because dad wouldn't. Oh and they are not actually jeans, they are some sort of stretch material. Not skin tight, but not jeans either.

Katie turns 14 next month. Her collecting interest follows mine exactly as she has already laid claim to every gun I own. She has been an NRA Endowment Life member since 2008 and goes to about half the OGCA meetings that I go to. She is at the range as often as she can. She loves her Pink Camo S&W 15-22 and shoots the **** out of it.

My goal is to get her to Tulsa, but that requires missing school. She has been to three SWCA annual meetings already.
