My youngest son had an elite soccer game on Sunday in Albany. In itself not too big a deal except it was 218 miles from my house. He caught a ride down with his coach and a few other players. That left me to cruise across the state at my own leisure.
As it turns out smack-***-dab in the middle of my trip is Hillbilly77's neighborhood. After a few PMs back and forth we came up with a plan to meet right off the thruway and grab an early lunch.
I left my car and Hillbilly took me to a bustling old country diner with a definite Americana feel. We spent about an hour and a half together before I continued on my trip.
All of you are aware of Hillbilly77's pithy and informative posts and his genuine sincerity towards forum members. I found him to be that same caring, comical guy. He's clearly a great family man. He has worked hard to get where he is in life but is quick to tell you he's human. He is very principled and very level headed.
We discussed guns and shooting, hunting and ammo (or lack there of). We talked about the forum and our mission to avoid the wrath of the big monkey
. NY's safe act came up more than once and in non-to-favorable context
. We hit a lot of topics in our relatively quick meet.
I came away with a feeling of appreciation toward the S&W Forum for facilitating my getting to meet a fine young(er) man.
Just one more reason to like being here.
BTW, the soccer game ended in a 0-0 tie. At least sun was out and it wasn't too cold or windy. They played well and no one got hurt!
My son drove all the way home (his longest trip driving since he got his license). He did great and we caught up on a bunch of father and son stuff (priceless)!
All-in-all, a most enjoyable trip.
