MFG Date on Rough Pistol

A friend owns this 38. It's in pretty rough condition, but he would still like to know when it was built. The serial no. is 361488.

Probably shipped in 1920, maybe 1921. I'm just interpolating from other 'teens and '20s serial numbers that I know.

I wouldn't call the condition "rough". If the rifling and cylinders look good, you could clean that up, put on some period grips. Then I would call it a very nice shooter. Would be a good idea to take it to a gunsmith or other knowledgable gun nut and get an opinion. By looking at the exterior I'd guess the interior is very good.

That needs a good cleaning and inspection, a period set of grips and, if it checks out, a trip to the range. Nice gun with history behind it...called "character". Good find

Flitz or Mothers will work wonders on that one.

Looks like a .38 Military & Police Model of 1905 - 4th Change.
