How many of you in NW Ohio & Michigan watch this show. I find that every Saturday or on the internet I'm watching this show. Been watching this show so long I can't remember it not being in my life. The stories with young hunters and fishermen just make my day. And their stories with young girls and women just makes me proud that there is something still good on TV. I spend all my vacation days traveling that great state. What do you think about it.:)

It's "Michigan Out Of Doors" (MOOD) now but was originally "Michigan Outdoors" when it was started by the legendary Mort Neff back in 1951. I started watching around 1960 (I was born in 56) with my Dad every Thursday evening. Some of my fondest early memories.

After Mort Neff retired, Fred Trost hosted till around 1992 when he began production of another show called Practical Sportsman - another Michigan based outdoor show. Other hosts took turns on what was then MOOD.

These days, MOOD is still in that same Thursday eve time slot - 8:00. Owned and produced now by Jimmy Gretzinger who BTW, is an awesome individual who's carrying on the traditions this great state has to offer.

When my son (now 24) was growing up, we always met on the couch to watch it. To this day, I never miss it.

They had to change the name because of a lawsuit. On one or more shows, Fred Trost criticized a hunting related product (very justly), saying it was a scam. Trouble was, the company that made it sued. Fred had a lawyer who wasn't up to the task so the show/Fred had to pay dearly. Even to the point they were forced to change the name of the show! Fred was so outraged he went to law school and became a lawyer, then eventually left the show. He passed away a few years back.

I still enjoy the show, but it's not like the old days with Mort Neff and Fred Trost. But all of us seniors like the way things used to be.

I've always liked the show. Fred Trost was somewhat controversial. Jack mentioned the lawsuits and such. A year or two ago Trost's daughter was selling a bunch of his stuff on eBay. I got some of his fly fishing gear.

I watched a lot of Mort Neff, but by the time Trost took over, I was working afternoons and missed a couple of decades of TV. :D
