Midway in trouble ?

I haven't bought primer online, since Wolf primers were selling on Powder Valley for $10 a brick. I and a couple of reloading buddies went together and split the hazmat and shipping cost, so it only cost us around $10 each to cover that.

Other than that one time, I buy all my primers locally or did up till around Dec. of 2020 till they disappeared from the shelves never to return till about two weeks ago in limited quantity mainly CCI SPM and LR and at two to three time the old price. I'm doing pretty well on primers, still shoot but not a much as I used to working so much the past year, so I'm good on primers for a while and can sit on the sidelines for a while and see it primer prices come down any. I buy the occasions stuff from Midway, but not powder and primers.

If the MidwayUSA product is on sale, order qualifies for free shipping, I MIGHT place the order. I check other on-line sellers before hitting the buy botton.
When all orders had free shipping from Midway I bought quite a bit from them. Then Larry decided to go with "fair and honest shipping" which was neither and I stopped buying from them as my primary source

Or Eggs? Or Gasoline? Or a sandwich? A can of Coke? A quart of half and half? A flashlight?

All are up more than those primers, yet somehow everyone who shoot thinks this is the only thing that has risen.

Don't buy them. Or maybe try "Cheaper than dirt"- they traditionally have very low prices.
The price of primers just about tripled in 3 years because the manufacturers quit selling them as components and started increasing their production of ammo. The price of ammo more than doubled at the time because people were buying it at the inflated rate as fast as ammo companies could produce it. We're still in the same situation as people are willing to pay these inflated prices. Although gas has doubled in price, I don't know of too many prices that have gone through the roof as much as ammo and reloading components. That's the price we pay for so many more new gun owners (pun intended).

Last week local gun shop primers were $7.50/100 today they are $14.00/100

You think shippers are willing to deliver ammo across the country for free?

Read the post you have made in this discussion and ask yourself if there is any chance that you acted like a spoiled child, a jerk or maybe a jealous tool. Most have not. For anyone that possibly impugned the character of Larry Potterfield, consider that he pioneered the NRA Round-Up program in 1992 and his own brainchild, when joined by other similar businesses and supported by gun owners, shooters and handloaders has collected 23.8 million dollars of direct support to the NRA/ILA, the strongest and most successful pro gun organization in the history of man and time.

But yeah, Mr. Potterfield has enjoyed hunting on the African continent and maybe you can't handle primer prices.

I would hope that grown men consider the things they choose to post. But often I overestimate folks.

Midway is far from being in trouble.

I wish Larry would include a round up option for contributions to the The GOA.

The bulk of the time I order from Midway it's during the free shipping specials.

FWIW I still think prices will moderate.

I recently purchased 1K of Winchester 209 shotgun primers ($65.00) and SPP ($75.00). Had not seen them in this store for a couple of years.

I am seeing 9mm ammo come down to the 250 per thousand on-line.

Buy what you need at the price you are comfortable with. We are in the trough between election cycles that is usually the right time to buy.

That's solid advice. I'm down to shooting a case or so of 9mm, 500 rds or so of .38 spl and maybe 2K .22lr/yr. Right now I have enough for 10 years (I'm almost 70, no man in my family has lived past 80, ever). I bought 2K 9mm for about $.35/rd this year. I expect $.25 maybe March or so, I'll grab 4 cases (only because ammo online will go away at some point). Other calibers are getting "more reasonable" but $.50/rd for .38 "widowmakers" is $.10/rd more than I will pay. I really enjoy taking "non-shooters" out to Triple N during nice weather. I convert at least 2 "antis" every year. Worth the cost. Joe

It sucks that prices for components are what they are, but if you wanna shoot, then that's they price we have to pay. From a business POV, you can't blame Midway IMO. Why should they sell them at $7-$9/100 and then have someone else re sell them at $12-$14/100 on line? They are the ones who had to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for the order, plus pay the employees, light bill and rent payment...JMO..

Do a little research on Larry Potterfield and how much he and his family donate to the shooting sports. Just last year he donated buildings in Columbia Missouri to the Boy Scouts, the CMP and the NRA. To say nothing of the MILLIONS in other causes. He still lives in the same house he and his wife Brenda built in the 1980's. It is nice, but no mansion. He drives a GMC. He is a regular guy that has worked hard all his life, and still goes to the office every day in his 70's. He has done more for the sport than anyone else you can name...and you complain over rising prices everywhere? And you think he is the reason? Because you think he is scalping hard to get items? For shame. He pays more to get items, we pay more to buy them. Thats how it works.

I would have to agree . The man took a chance quite a few years ago and started a business that has done very well over the years . It's the American dream and I say good for him and his family .
