This link is a little old but it looks like there's a script out there on Ed Cantrell, the lawman sent to clean up Rock Springs, Wyoming in the 1970's. Sounds like an old cowboy movie, doesn't it? But he killed a fellow cop with such speed he was tried for murder. Who could shoot that fast if what he said was happening was true? Well, he went to trial and that's what this movie would be about. His lawyer was Jerry Spence and his best "witness", was Bill Jordan. This would be great if done right.
In the movie "The Shootist" John Wayne explains to Opie Taylor how he survived so many gunfights. He says,"Some men will hesitate to pull the trigger. I won't." Neither would Ed Cantrell.

Feature film on former Lusk, Wyo., lawman Ed Cantrell is in the works

uh oh. Sounds like you got the inside scoop on that shootout, Iggy. And a less than great opinion of Cantrell since you no doubt crossed paths with him. There's that thread on J Edgar hoover where lots of us complain about how people are attacked AFTER they're dead and can't defend themselves. You won't do that here about Ed Cantrell but you can beat around the bush a little, can't ya'? I saw that City Confidential episode on him and that's it. Too bad there isn't an unbiased book about this to see the pros and cons from people who were there, like that Claude Dallas book I talked about here before.

I have zero personnal knowledge of cantrell, but I have read of the incident in the police car where he shot the deputy. On the other side of the coin bill jordan vouced for him. I think he got lucky with that and a gullible jury. Guess maybe we will know what happened on judgement day.

Cantrell was on the WHP in Rock Springs when I was transferred to Green River.
I had one minor incident with him shortly before he left the patrol. It was one in which I came to the conclusion I would never turn my back on him or trust him in any circumstance.

I had been transferred to Laramie by the time he returned to Rock Springs and I don't know much about what took place there.

Just knowing what I did about him, I would have put nothing beyond him.

My lasting impression of him is that of a coiled rattle snake.

My impression of his attorney isn't much better.

I lost some respect for Bill Jordan over that deal too. Bill said that Cantrell was faster with a gun than he was. That's a crock. I saw both of them in action. I think Jerry Spence got to Bill on that one.
