I've had Dillon reloading equipment for years and have always marvelled at their customer service.
This week I bought a brand new set of their .41 mag dies. The sizing die was too big to size a .44 let alone a .41. It must have had a carbide ring for a .50.
I called Dillon this morning and they agreed the die was defective. I thought they would offer to send me another with a prepaid return shipping label. But they said to return it and they would repair or replace it. So now it looks like I'm out $5.50 for shipping and about 2 weeks of time.
Maybe they will do something additional when they return the die, but right now I'm kind of disappointed.

I agree that you'd think they'd want to rectify their error ASAP. Maybe the recession is hitting them hard, too.

I have had Dillon equipment for about 30 years and was always impressed with their no hassle guarantee. Always got replacement/repair parts or manuals for free. Recently I was using my old style powder measure with the two springs on it to return the charge bar instead of the cam operated thing they have now. Anyway the two spring flew off recently when I wanted to change the charge bar size and I lost the them is the dark hole flying springs often disappear into. Called to get new ones and the CS guy I spoke to was a complete jerk and absolutely wouldn't send or let me purchase replacement springs. Instead he went on and on how I should change over to the new style charge bar return mechanism. I finally had to hang up and call again. The second guy I spoke to immediately said no problem and sent me the springs I needed at no charge just like they always did before. I guess the CS depends on who you speak to.

Flaming of those who question Dillon perfection by rabid Dillon Disciples to begin in 5,4,3 ....

Ordered a few items myself the other day from dillion and the cs guy I dealt with was very short with me when I asked him to repeat my order back to me for my piece of mind.I felt very rushed on the phone, other than that always had A+ service from them.Guess I will see if the order is right when it shows up.I won't even start on Glocks cs.

You bought the dies direct from Dillion?

I would call them back and insist (nicely) that they ship it on their dime. Why should you pay twice?

I would feel that way about any company if they sent the wrong or defective part.

Heck I called Springfield Armory about a 45 cal Magazine that would not drop free from my XD. The lady said Oh that's that right I will send you out a new one. I said how do I send you this one, she said Oh just keep it. Had a new one in 3-4 days. I almost felt guilty, I mean the mag works, just has a bulge or something.

The folks at Grafs are really nice but I guess it's not their fault. Oh well at least they only have a handling charge and not a big shipping charge. I would still push Dillon, but that's just me;)

FWIW: I called Dillon back, spoke to a different person and expressed my disappointment. He said that was their policy with dies, "they had do that to protect themselves". Refreshing candor - I guess there must be a lot of people trying to rip them off for sizing dies :). He also said that most of the time it was operator error (my words - not his). I'm not the most technically competent reloader out there, but when a fired and unsized .44 mag case bottoms out and is loose inside a .41 FL die I think it's a die problem.
At any rate he offered to let me speak to his boss and said he might be able to get me a store credit for the shipping. I thanked him and said I'd just wait to see what happened when they got the die back.

I once, due to my own stupidity, had a problem with an RCBS die. They sent me a new seater plug and finally a whole new die - and it was my fault.
I've had similar experiences with Dillon and parts for my SDB and 650, but this is the first time I've had a problem with a die.

Well, I'm one of those Dillon fans but I am a bigger fan of the truth! ;)

If they have had problems with stupid people, the aren't the first on that account either. We all have had to do that! :)

The only Dillon dies I have though are the proprietary ones that go in a Square Deal B. I use Lee dies in all of my XL650 setups. They are cheap, they work, and I can buy them locally.

380, 9mm, 38/357Mag, 40S&W, 44Mag(spl), 45ACP, 45Colt, 223, 30/06, 7.62x54R.

Several of those don't go on the XL650 but all of the dies are Lee.

Now, time for a confession. I too have been a bit upset with Dillon. Mainly because of one issue. I got a used Square Deal B through ebay. It ended up having a broken frame. I asked about getting a frame. They said that was the only part they would not ship out. I had to return it for that to get replaced. Well, to replace the frame, you have to completely disassemble the thing. While you have it apart, why not just rebuild the thing? Nope, that would cost extra. Can't remember how much exactly, in the area of $45. They did send it back in a new box. I had a new press for about $200 so that part was a win/win.

I just left it in that box, added some powder, primers, bullets(boolits) and made a care package for son #1. He now is loading 38spl & 45ACP on it.

Started casting too! Wants to have bullets(boolits) just in case! ;)

What is it with you? All your stories have happy endings ;).

yeah...when you own a mini gun like they do...you cant shoot it but once a week now verses every day like you use to four years ago....

I didn't think you would like them if I told bad endings! ;)

(I don't make them up, it just happens this way! Well, sometimes you gotta be willing to help make them happen this way! ;) )

i two have noticed it depends who you get on the phone at dillion as to how the help goes
