I've been corresponding with a Brit WW1 collector and had posted some pictures of my .455 Triple Lock and its holster.
He commented that he had not seen a British holster of that period with a buckle fastener. He thought some of our (US) Cavalry holster were buckled fastened and wondered if the British Contract guns were equipped with holsters when we shipped them out. Anyone...??????

Here's a pic:

US gear is almost always marked. I don't know of any with a buckle like that, but the Germans did use some flap holsters with buckles. It could be for a Reich's revolver.

Th U.S. never used holsters of that type. I agree that the holster, belt looks and buckle closure all look German.

I don't think it's German. At least not for a Reichsrevolver. All the ones I have seen have either a pouch for extra rounds or the "flap" is much larger and almost looks like a cape. Also, the German strap and buckle are much more substantial.

I'm wondering if the British order requested that holsters be provided "In the British style" and S&W (or Remington, the purchasing/shipping agent) jobbed them out and didn't define the latching type and ended up with a buckle instead of a stud.
